Can anyone tell me what a good stone or diamond sharpener im new to sharpening don't know what to get.

More detail would help a fair bit, especially concerning exactly what you're sharpening, what your expectations are, and what your budget looks like. :)

If budget is no issue, an Atoma 140, followed by Shapton Pro or Shapton Glass waterstones would be perhaps the very best for hand sharpening.

If budget *IS* an issue, a DMT XC or XXC, followed by a King 1k/6k combo stone would be a good choice.

You can get anything, as long as its abrasive and has the grits you need.

What steels are you planning to sharpen? Or, if you're not sure what the steel type is, what knives (brand/model)? That'll be the best way to determine which types of abrasives will work best for you. Diamond can work on most anything, but can also be overkill on many steels. May not be necessary to spend extra $$ on diamond hones, if you don't really need them.
