Looking for a new knife and would really like to know what ppl would recommend... my req's are;
  • tanto blade
  • assisted opening
  • 2.7 to 3.5" blade (or near to)
  • as light as possible
  • not liner lock

At the moment I have been using a cheapo gerber, after I lost my gerber fast draw (which was a bit clunky). So my new knife is destined to be a big upgrade :p

I really like the look of the blade on it - modified tanto ftw :p

however i do not like liner lock - i prefer the button like on the gerber

and its pretty heavy at 5.3oz, my pos gerber fastdraw was 3.6oz and that was $30 not $150

It's not gonna drag your pants down. :p

There aren't very many button lock knives to begin with. The economical ones are just linerlocks with a button to disengage the liner. The expensive customs are true button locks.

crkt crawford triumph...linerlock, but has the auto lake and walker knife safety to block the liner from moving out of the way.

kershaw tanto blur...linerlock, but a very nice knife.

SOG Twitch XL Tanto maybe?

I've got both the Tanto and regular blade, very well made. A tad heavy for their size, but nice and slim and unlikely to upset anyone. Interesting top lock with flipper; 3" blade. Handle's doesn't provide a lot of grip.

Only thing I don't like about the Tanto is some rather badly placed jimping on the top of the blade. Doesn't hurt anything, but seems pointless due to its positioning on this particular knife.

SOG Aegis Tanto. It has everything you need, even a decent copy of the Axis lock on it. It's light, too; no steel liners, 3.5 inches.

Much as I've been a little disgusted with SOG of late, the Aegis is a very nice knife IMO, and it meets all your criteria.
