Just a quick question. What are some traditional lockbacks that are available. While I like my slipjoints, I would like to carry at least one locking blade. Preference is lockback with stag handles. Pictures would help. Thanks!

I would recommend a Canal Street Cutlery Pinch, 3 in blade, 6 3/4 overall, D2 blade steel and stainless liners.

I also own a CSC Pinch lockback, and I like it alot.
As an alternative, you might consider a GEC #72 lockback in stag as well.

I think this is the one I just bought (in the mail to me now). Still new to traditionals so learning the model numbers. Mine is the hunter version with the spear point blade. Was hoping for a clip point but couldn't find one.

Although not stag covered, the Buck 55 is a nice pocketable lockback.

It's a neat little knife -- 3 3/8" long closed with a 2 3/8" long blade. Sort of a junior version of the Buck 110 and Buck 112 knives.

Not stag covered, too - but also a wonderful knife. It´s a Friedrich Hartkopf, Solingen Lockback with ebony covers. I don´t know if it´s too big, but there also smaller versions and other versions with stag covers available.

I don´t know if it can be found in the US, but Friedrich Hartkopf is one of the oldest makers in Solingen, Germany. It´s a great knife and I highly recommend it.

I like the Buck 500 series, I have the 503. You can order any of the 500 series or a 110 from the Buck custom shop with Stag handles.

Don't overlook Traditionals with Linerlock and backspring. I prefer this arrangement as you get less blade play/movement than on many lockbacks. Examples include the GEC 73 linerlock -I've stag and bone versions. Queen Cutlery Teardrop linerlock and Copperhead linerlock. The Queens comes with D2 my current fave steel.

Queen mountain man and Case copperlock, depending on your desire for beef (former is porterhouse, latter is filet).

If you don't mind filet, the copperlock feels great in the hand and has a great looking clip blade that in case fashion is thin and cuts like a laser. Not the greatest steel, but keep a ceramic rod around and you'll be cooking.

GEC Missouri Trader can be found in stag - wonderful knives. Schatt and Morgan recently put out some new Mountain Men in stag. Custom Buck 110 and 112 models come up on ebay fairly regularly in stag. The GEC is my pick.

In tune with Humppa I`m gonna point you towards the Puma Jagdtaschenmesser 1. I have a very vivid memory of an old doctor of medicine cutting some sausages and cheese to go with his Hefeweizen at the stammtisch my father was playing cards every Thursday and Saturday. I`ve been oogeling and lusting over that knife for so long, I think I`m almost ready to pull the trigger. This could be my next "peanut".
