I'm getting more and more into big folders - and am now contemplating the Rukus. I like the looks and the fact that a portion of the handle material is replaceable.

I am concerned about BM quality recently - I saw some in my local cuttlery store that were not real good as far as fit and finish. The blade grinds were terrible also.

I have several older BM models that are great.

Anyone recently purchase / use one?

I did see a few videos on YouTube.

All the Benchmades i have bought have had great fit and finish and amazing grinds. When I got my mini-Rukus (about 1 year ago), the fit and finish was amazing and it cut like a freakin laser.

I bought a mini Rukus about two weeks ago. The F&F is great, just as good as the other 8 BM's I own.

My only complaint is I wish the frame wasn't coated, I don't know if the full size version is or not.

I just ordered the mini rukus. I didn't know that BM was having quality problems, the 940 I bought several months ago had exceptional fit/finish.

The Rukus was being made when BM was still one of the top manufacturers in the world.

I have one, and the fit and finish is excellent.
Get one while you can.

I wouldn’t bother with the newest version though. It has AO, one piece handle slabs and a 154CM steel blade.

BM seems to be going backwards these days.

That was a limited edition run, there should be only like 250 of those out there. The Rukus is still just as great as it has always been.

I had the original large Rukus... sold it..as their Ad said ... folding sword... bit too big for me.

Fit and Finish was top grade. Only negative was I felt Axis spring was a bit weak for the blade weight.

I've had a lot of knives pass through my hands...the Rukus was high on the list.

bearcut....I haven't bought a BM in over a year. Is their quality going down ?

JPD1998....Yeah , frame was coated.

I have been interested in the Rukus for a while now, I think it will probably be the next >$100 knife I purchase. I think it would be a great addition to the Skirmish that I just got, and I really love the Axis lock it has.

I probably need to stop purchasing such large folders, because I typically can't carry them without people freaking out, but something about a huge blade makes me not even think about the practicality of it.

And is it just me, or can anyone else not stand coated blades? I have the D2 Cabelas Griptilian which has a coated blade, and it seems like every time I cut some food, I have to work way harder than I should to get the residue off the blade. That plus there is a lot of wear from me coating open a Monster can (I had just bought it and I wanted to show my friend how sharp it was. Pretty dumb on my part I know).

I've bough three blue class BM's in the last couple months, the F&F and quality is great. BM's quality is definitely just as good as it has always been.

They are referring to having coated liners, not the blade. You can get a Rukus without a coated blade, you can not get a Rukus without a coated frame (liners).

I have about 10 higher end Benchmades and they are always an A+ on fit and finish. I have a red box BM Nagara where the grind is a little off, but the rest of the knife is near perfect so I let it slip...

I have a Rukus, and it is a very nice knife. The blade is very thick, and the knife is huge. I didn't realize how big it was from the pictures and printed dimensions: it's big! The design is sweet, and the knife is the only one that is as smooth as my 710, literally falls open at about 5 degrees of tilt when held sideways with the axis lock drawn back.

Sounds like I need to get one! I always carry a Vic Climber in back pocket for those "politically correct" moments.

Anyone have a preference on the replaceable scales? I understand they offer 5 or 6 variations. I like the wood ones.

Toyz.... go ahead and get one. The optional replacement scales are a bit pricey IMO.

I tested mine when walking my dogs by cutting down 24 one and a half to two inch poplar saplings. Simulated making tent poles by "pencil sharpening " the sapling and leaving a standing fuzz stick. Stopped shaving arm hair after 24. One heck of a cutter.

Quoted for truth. I love my limited edition one though. :D

Seriously, it rocks. The assisted opening on the limited is the nicest I've felt on any knife, and as a dealer I get to handle thousands of knives.

I replaced my full-size Rukus with carbon fiber scales and they feel smooth as silk -- very comfortable. Go ahead and buy the knife, it's great!

I think they are down to just 3 variations now. There is one wood one and I think two G10 ones. The carbon fiber ones were sweet, if you can still find someone that has them in stock jump on it.
