Recommendations for a Fixed Blade EDC for Larger Hands...

Hello All!

I've been lurking this forum on and off for the past few weeks, reading reviews and whatnot, trying to get some ideas for a new fixed blade for every day use at work and the occasional camping/hiking.

I have a few folders, as well as a mora, but I need something a little stronger because I am what I like to call "retard strong". In other words: I don't know my own strength, and I easily break things quite often, so I need something that doesn't feel like it will break in my hands while I'm using it.

The only real criteria that I have are: under 10" in overall length, under $100 (preferably between $60-$80), and something that will fit well in my hands (L-XL gloves).

With that in mind,nI've boiled it down to three choices:

Ontario RAT 3
Esee Izula II
Ontario Ranger Falcon

My only issue with all of these, is that the handles seem to be a little small. Most reviews that I've read, say that they "fit pretty well in my medium sized hands", or something along those lines.

So, any recommendations? Would you suggest any of these three with my criteria?

Thanks in advance!

I think the first two you listed aren't very suitable for large hands. I could be wrong but I remember reading someone complain that the handles on them weren't big enough for their hands. I would expect the same feelings from you given your criteria. Someone will chime in with a suggestion. Kabars typically have largish handles in my opinion

Have you given thought to the Becker BK16 or BK17? Either of those should fit your criteria and I think the handles would be fine, even for large hands.

The Becker knives have been on my radar as well. I don't know why, but I haven't been sold on getting a BK 16/17. Perhaps I'll research them some more.

I know that the A-1 Fallkniven has a larger handle than the S-1 .I have a size 9 hand . You're going to have to have an even larger handle than the A-1 . In other words look for one with at least a 5.5 " handle ! You might need a custom knife for that . That doesn't neccessarily mean expensive .Try to find the needed dimensions and ask some makers.
