recommendations for a fixed blade

I'm looking to outfit my new 5.11 Rush 24 backpack with some gear. I'm not looking to go on hikes that last more than a couple of hours but I would like to have some gear with me for when I venture out in the swampy areas here in southeast Louisiana.
One of those pieces that I want to have with me is a fixed blade knife. Ideally this would be strapped one of the shoulder straps on the Rush 24. I took the Kershaw Camp 10 with me a couple of weeks ago but it felt a little awkward when over my shoulder. I don't necessarily need something that big either.
What would you guys suggest? It would have to have a sheath that I could attach to the MOLLE webbing on the shoulder strap or some other suitable attachment on the sheath. A simple belt loop would likely not be good enough.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

+1 to the esee 4. I have an esee 6 mounted on my rush 12 pack using a molle sheath. It works quite well, and the knife is simply awesome.

The only thing you would have to watch for is rust on the non-coated laser etched areas. You mentioned that you are in louisiana, and if you are hanging out in swamps, make sure you take care of your blade.

esee 4 (4.5 inch blade 9 inches overall) has a great stock sheath set up with molle, nylon and belt cllip for several carry configurations..the becker bk2 (5.5 inch blade 10inches overall)has a decent sheath with milled slots, with a little paracord would mount nicely...if your wanting a little smaller there is the esee 3 or a little bigger the bk7 is a tested and proven winner.

I think a 3-5" fixed blade knife is the way to go. A ESEE 4 or Kabar Becker BK-16/17 should work for most tasks and not be awkward strapped to your Rush 24.

"Strapped" is the key word here. I have a 5.11 Rush moab 6, a Rush Traveler, and a bag (Fieldline brand) that is very similar to your 24. I have yet to figure out a convenient way to strap stuff on that can be easily taken off to use. Heck, they even give you straps with the MOAB 6 and I don't even understand how to attach them.

Sounds like something stainless would work for you. You didn't specify your budget. How about a SOG seal pup elite? Mine's sharp as hell, touches up easily, AUS-8 so it's pretty stain resistant, sheath is Molle compatible, seems to be tough enough. And, it's relatively inexpensive.
