Hi I'm excelsior. I'm new to the forum and looking for a new Spyderco for EDC. I already have a manix2 lightweight, G10 dragonfly, and a delica4. I absolutely love my dragonfly and my manix, just wished the manix had liners. Not too crazy about the delica. The ergos seem off for my hand, my index and middle finger seem to be mashed together. So I'm basically looking to replace my delica with something else. Looking forward to you guy's expert opinions. Here are my needs:

Needs:
Folder
Atleast VG10 steel
Liners
Plain Edge
Under $200

Preferred
3"-3.5" blade range
Full flat grind

The Centofante if you want to stay in the same price range. The Sage 1 if you want an awesome knife. Actually the Centofante isn't ffg unless I'm mistaken.

Paramilitary 2, or a used Southard. I can pretty much guarantee those will be the top recommendations on this thread.

I recommend a spyderco stretch(vg-10 frn handles) an carry one everyday. I recently tried a new pocketknife, one of the new kershaw/emersons and closed that thing on my finger so many times... from being to quick to close it an get it to the pocket again. Now with my stretch that has a coil under the blade and being lockback, I have never closed mine on my fingers an i'm always trying to get my knife open and close pretty dang fast. The full flat grind is very easy to strop to a razors edge and being able to completely take the knife apart I was able to clean an polish up ever face of the movements making it very smooth with zero blade play. Only possible addition I need on my stretch is some serrations for cutting tree branches.

The PM2 is my favorite. Also, really like the persistence. It's the perfect size! I'm going to pick up a Kiwi for a back up.

Don't own a Spyderco yet, but the Sage 1 is on my list. I'm also diggin the Southard but its too out of my price range.

The Southard isn't FFG either. I'd recommend the Sage series. Take your choice . . . 1, 2 or 3 . . . whichever you prefer.

If you like the way the Delica performs other than the hand cramping, try a FFG Endura 4. I'm almost positive your hand will have enough room.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm really liking the Sage or the paramilitary. But I have no experiance with carbon fiber scales. Looks like it would get scratched and dinged pretty easily. And I've never handled a compression lock, whatever that is. Is it pretty one hand friendly?

I really want to like the delica. Just seems that whenever It feels comfortable it's either in a three finger hold, or I have my index in the spit where the FRN stops and metal starts.

I believe the carbon fiber is just an overlay on top of g10. It's surprisingly tough and scratch resistance in my experience. It's one of my favorite EDC's.

CF grips are great. I actually set out to get a PM2 and ended up with a Sage 1. It is by far my favorite folder. I'm still getting a PM2, it has too many fans not to be excellent.

Another vote for the Stretch. Not the flavor of the month like the PM2 but my all-time favorite Spyderco.
