So my Jose Pena Mula knife with a beautiful Damasteel blade and gorgeous red Fat Carbon inlays had a crazy strong and harsh detent to prevent me from enjoying the knife as much as I would have liked and should for such a beauty. I love the knife, so I followed the several Bladeforums threads here, Neeves Knives YouTube video, and other YouTube videos.

I disassembled my knife, removed the steel travel stop out from the framelock bar very carefully (if you have steel insert that can be removed, which my Mula does), and slowly/cautiously bent the framelock Away from the blade. To do this, you need to go past the travel stop, which is why I had to remove it.

This can be tricky, so be patient and wiggle slowly if it sticks because mine was a crazy tight fit. Then I bent it out carefully and only a little at a time. I thought I moved it a lot because it was significantly bent inward toward the knife, which I could see really well when my knife was apart.

RECOMMENDATION: take pics of the framelock before you start, so you know what you have done and to compare the before and after of your progress.

I then confirmed it was adjusted enough away from the blade and reassembled the knife. It now works beautifully and has a significantly less harsh detent from the formerly tight framelock. It is reasonable to open and does hurt doing so after opening and closing for several minutes.

… yes, my knives are both useful tools and fidget toys, as I don’t apologize to anyone but my wife and sons. LOL.

I hope this helps someone! Thank you to other forum posts, Neeves Knives YouTube channel and other YouTubers.
Also, this works for the opposite adjustment that may be needed when your detent is too weak. You may not have to remove a framelock stop, though.

This was originally a reply on another thread where they discussed a strong detent, so my reply noted what I did and how well it worked.

FYI… in case it seems out of place, as it was moved over here and they closed that thread.
