I'm primarily right handed and I'm looking to add a concealable back up knife to my weak side. What do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Fixed blade for SD, between 50-300 USD.

weak side for what? Self defense? Maybe a lead strap or one of those extending baton deals... for everyday stuff I just keep an SAK on my off side and a fixed blade EDC in my left front pocket. A Byrd Wings always struck me as a nice extra blade, you get a fully serrated edge and a full straight edge that are one-hand opening and locking for utility purposes, and it's cheap enough to abuse without too much sorrow.

sinc eyou put about zero actual info into your post im just going to make assumptions and probably be wrong, but hey thats the price you pay for lacking info n/o

assumption 1: you want this knife for sd and backup utility. people who use the pgrase strong and weak side are usually referenceing weapons, but you dont make a distinction so im going to assume it will be used for utility too.

assumption 2: you dont care if its fixed or folder. So im just going to say fixed because its gosh durned idiot proof.

assumption 3: money is no object. sinc eyou didnt specify a budget im not really going to take it that much into account i will be reasonable and reccomend something that you can get easily enough but its certianly not going to be super cheap.

assumption 4: you still live in the peoples republic of kalifornia. so nothing big or scary.

ok here goes:

id like to reccomd a small fixed blade form alan folts particularily the spew or maybe the minimalist, they are small and compact and come in a variety of colors so they arent intimidating. they also make them with circuit board handles which id imagine would appeal to someone who works in silcone valley :P

if you want a cheaper fixed blade try the dirk pinkerton wharning produced by meyerco, cheap and well designed a great utility/ sd knife at a price that cant be beat.

if you want a folder i reccomend a ken onion leek, the spring assist makes it so you dont need tyo much dexterity in your off hand to open the blade.

if you put in more info ill try and help you out better. hope you find what your looking for.

Sounds like a Ka-Bar TDI to me.

Yep.

I know you said fixed blade but the endura wave is prime for weakside carry. your pocket does all the work for you. an emerson would also be a good choice but they are so hard to get. for a fixed blade my scrapviore never let me down but there are some smaller striders that you couldnt break if you tried. 3v.

Izula II. You'll use it more for everyday utility purposes (I hope), but it could serve an SD role if needed. Remember, a knife should be a tool that can be used as a weapon, not a weapon that can be used as a tool. Just my $0.02.

I don't think a fixed blade is legal to conceal any place in California but if it is in your area or you want to do it anyway TDI, Cold Steel Kobun, ESEE 4, etc. whatever is your flavor. There is no need for something over $100 let alone over $200 unless you really just want the luxury or fall in love with a certain design.

How about a Benchmade 176 SOCP dagger? Seems designed for easy access SD carry. The problems I can potentially see are that I'm pretty sure it's double edged and may very well be considered a push dagger legally. If you can carry it without legal trouble it seems to fit the bill. Doesn't offer much utility beyond stabbin', though.

If you decide on a folder, an Emerson or Waved Spyderco would be an excellent idea. When I carry two knives on me my Emerson is in my back left pocket. Comes out ready to go in an icepick grip lightning quick.

ESEE-4, as already recommended, or, since that can be just a tad big, the ESEE-3. I don't usually recommend the ones with a sharpened clip point but, for your purpose, that's probably the ticket. The draw from their sheaths--even in the pocket--is simple and quick.

On my strong side, I have at least one firearm. I keep knives (and magazines) on my weak side.

A punch dagger is ideal for weak side. Almost impossible to disarm. This is one I made for a forum member. Blade is 4.25" sharpened from .150" 1084.

My guess is the OP wants something weak-side, possibly for weapon retention (Handgun). If that's the case, I highly recommend a FB (From personal experience). Since it's to be concealed, I suggest one that's relatively small & easy to grab. My suggestion is a HAK, Brous Silent Solder (The V2's have larger finger holes), Emerson La Griffe, Ka-Bar TDI, Izula, etc. You want something that can be grabbed quickly & finger holes tend to be more secure in the hand (Less chance of getting disarmed &/or fumbling with it). A push dagger would certainly work, too (A TDI, Izula or similar FB don't have finger holes, of course).

Waved folders are nice, but if this is a back-up knife (Especially if it's for weapon retention for a hand-gun), a FB is the way to go. Personally, I usually carry a folder on my strong-side (Usually waved) & a FB weak-side, along with 1 or 2 guns depending on the circumstances (Always when I'm working, of course).
