Alright, so I'm getting married in May. Yay! Go me!

On my side of the altar, I'll have a posse of five of my college friends who think of me as "the knife guy." This means for that gift I'm supposed to give them, I want it to be something sharp.

I also want it to be something they probably wouldn't ever buy for themselves, so the first blades I thought of were those HI has to offer.

One of the consequences of being a student is a lack of funds, so I can't afford to give them all 18" Ang Kholas like the one I favor. (Then again, if I could afford it, I'd probably have a better selection of Khuks instead .... :D ) I was thinking more along the lines of five Kagas Katnes, or maybe five Biltons if I'm feeling rich. What say you, o HI enthusiasts? Mini Khuks for everyone, or am I missing some other ideal-but-relatively-inexpensive HI product? Thanks. :)

kagas katnes look like neet little things... that wouldnt be a bad way to go
you could even get your wedding date and names engraved on the blades.

ofcourse you would have more room to engrave on a bilton :D

and if have the time to watch out for yangdu DOTD's...
you could pick out individual blades for each of your friends in the $40-$60 price range if you are lucky

If you want to impress them, try to get them Sarge biltons with the red velvet scabbard. Kagas Katnes are nice, but they are more letter openers than knives. After sanding down the handle on my kk and sharpening it up, I've got a nice little two finger knife, but it won't make an impression like the bilton.

BINGO BINGO BINGO!:D

First of all, congrats:) I was in the same situation a year ago. I had 4 groomsmen that needed something special for being a part of my special day. Two of the guys are brothers 4 years apart who i tease for having matching '95 Mustangs, so I got matching Sgt biltons with wooden handles. For my other buddy, I got him a sgt bilton with a horn handle. For my best man, I gave him an antler handled JKM-1. I had our very own Dan Koster sharpen and polish the knives as well as the YCS that my wife and I cut our cake with:D I presented these to the guys the night before the big day. They were floored and loved them:) As an added bonus, once i started to get into very crude leatherwork that following december, I made each of them a less ornate sheath so that they could carry these wonderful user blades without dinging up their nickle-silver ones.

You might email Yangdu and see what she has in stock:)

Congrats! I like your choice. Good on you for such a nice gift.

Congrats! or condolences ;) . I think Kagas Katnes or Biltons would be great. I'd lean more towards Biltons, since it would be easier to etch or engrave their names and the wedding date in the larger blades. They would certainly make a very unique gift.

I'd lean towards asking Yangdu for matching BASs. You only (intend to) get married once. On a bulk purchase, the price might be negotiable.

Or JKM's or the Sarge knife. I'm a little confused; where the 'sgt' knives talked of earlier the Sgt K. knives, the embellished Biltons? That's what I took it to be.
Yangdu is always offering deals on the (Silvrfalcon) Sgt knife and the JKM. I'd go for a set of those.

Thanks much for your input! I've fired an email off toward Yangdu to see what she has sitting around that might meet my needs. We'll see what happens. :)

I'll probably not go for the Kagas Katnes. They are a bit tiny. I really can't afford to go larger than Biltons. Those should fit the bill quite nicely though, I'd imagine. :)

If you manage to get some biltons, you're guys are gonna love them. They're so unique. I mean, anyone can go to a website and a monogrammed flask or swiss army knife. Those are done to death. However, with the biltons you won't be spending a lot, but you'll get a lot. Don't tell the guys what you spent. They'll think you shelled out big bucks!:D

BTW, from what part of Kentucky do you hail?

Heheh. I like the way you think. :)

I'm from southeastern Kentucky. Go south on I-75, stop 25 miles or so shy of the Tennessee border. Welcome to Corbin, KY. My hometown. I go to college in Williamsburg, Kentucky, which is about 14 miles further south down I-75.

If you miss the last Williamsburg Exit, you'll be in Jellico, Tennessee next thing. :)

Congrats, Zal!!

Long time no see. I still remember meeting you and your Dad at Blade. Best wishes!

A set of Sgt. Karka Biltons would be excellent - showy and functional too.

The one part of Kentucky I never get to visit. I live right at the KY IN state line in the toe of Indiana, so I know northwestern KY. I spent half my college years at Murray State in the southwestern corner of the state (5 min drive into TN for beer since it was a dry county at the time, 1999). The other half was in Bowling Green at WKU in the southcentral part. Finally, my wife's family hails from the Louisville-Metro area, so i get around the state. Sadly, I just don't find much chance to visit the southeasten part:(
Congrats again on your wedding. Take lots of pics and video. As a recently married guy, I can tell you that it goes so fast that you'll honestly probably remember the day like a dream. A very good dream, but you'll be pulled in so many different ways it probably won't be as crisp as you would like;) Just go with the flow and don't sweat the small stuff. It's a day for you and your wife. Good luck on your groomsman gifts:)

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials (one of those words I don't get to use very often, so I like to throw it out there when I can). My wife's best friend grew up in/near Corbin. We pass by there on our trips to the Hoosier state to visit my wife's family. I believe it is close to the halfway point of our trip, so it is a landmark of sorts for us.
