i recently moved to nyc (brooklyn) from down south. a friend had just started to turn me on to sayoc kali when i moved. now i'm here in a blade unfriendly city, and haven't found many schools advertising sayoc kali.
i know that sayoc.com lists the certified schools, but i can't tell much from the schools' advertisements. many are multi-disciplinary (fine, but i don't want a compromise for the sake of the teacher's resume) and seem to stress different focuses (sd, sport, cardio-, practical, traditional, etc...).

i'm looking for any advice that might help me minimize shelling out the few dollars i have for trial classes and endless subway treks.

thanks

Try James Berkeley on the upper west side. You can find him listed under school on www.sayoc.com (I think the school is called Tactical Studies)

There's Andreas Badian in the city.

After Oct. 16th 2004, Guro Jeff Chung is no longer teaching Sayoc Kali full time, but his own personal system of combatives.

Great to be of assistance. Btw, if you check out the Fight House, Guro Allain Atienza runs a group there as well. Highly recommended.

Hi...

I realize that dates on the post are lil old (3 months) but still recent enough not to start a new thread.

Did anything change as far as the schedulling goes? Are there any classes offered in brooklyn? I work overnights in brooklyn and that's where I live as well so I was hoping that there may be a class offered here.

Also how does typical 2 hr session look like?

Thank you very much in advance,

Matt

You should go and check out the schools yourself. Individual teachers teach differently.

Pekiti Tirsia has a longer history in NYC longer than anyone else.

I also had posted on here and was referred to Guro Jeff Chung.
I just had the pleasure of checking out his class last night.
Honestly, I thought it was the most comprehensive blade/hand to hand
training I've come across.
I will be joining his class in February.

Definitely worth checking out

Hello everyone,

Stickaction1- Glad to see you went to see Guro Jeff! He is a very kind hearted and well skilled martial arts teacher!

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out with your training.
