I am looking for input on the purchase of an all around hunting, backpacking, survival, glovebox, fixed blade. Kabar, Camillus, Buck, etc. less than $55.00. For year round use, cutting, light chopping, skinning, cooking, etc. I will also have a Buck 110 & multitool.
Your input is appreciated.

The Becker C/U 7 fits your criteria PERFECTLY! The pouch on the front of the sheath can house your multi tool and you're all set.

I'll third it!

I use the front pouch, to hold my Altoid tin survival kit, and I am ready to go!

The Becker CU7 is a really great buy.

For the price window you specify, I definitely concur with the others on the value & functionality of the Becker Knife & Tool Combat/Utility-7 (BK7) model as the knife of choice at this moment. Realize that its chopping is limited, but it will suffice. FWIW, I ground a choil cutout into mine to improve its versatility & increase its comfort for making forceful cuts.

As an alternative, you can get seconds of the Cold Steel SRK (only 6" blade though) in Carbon V for under $30. In my mostly chopping tests, it approached the BK7's performance (in spite of its shorter blade) by merit of having a very sharp edge. But its handle can't hold a candle to the BK7's for comfort in use.

For outside your price window, I recommend Busse knives. :)

Thanks, I appreciate all the input.

Texascarl, I believe the Cold Steel seconds can be purchased from Cold Steel direct. They are available in limited quantities.

I have played with a few knife types, I keep reading threads from users that tout the standard Kabar style, whether by Camillus or others, and the D2 and stainless versions. Ofcourse those raise the price as well. Weight is also a factor since I walk a lot when hunting or backpacking.

Within the stated budget, I also would recommend the Becker C/U-7.

Factory secons only are available from Cold Steel direct, you csan see their site at www.coldsteel.com although i don't know if they are listed there.
Call at (800) 255-4716 and ask for models you are interested in.

Mate, there are a few that will fill the bill at your suggested price.
Some you might not think of.

1.) Buck Nighthawk (clip blade). One of THE toughest kinves I've ever seen.
2.) Camillus "Ka-bar" A standby with a history all it's own.
3.) Camillus B/K 7. A screaming deal if there ever was one.
4.) Camillus Pilot suvival. Not 7" but very easy to carry & a very dependable companion.

There are others I'm sure they just don't come to mind now. You're correct in that you can
buy a really decent knife for not much money.

Volvi(Dennis),
Hey haven't seen you post for a while. How's it going?

The Bk7 definitely sounds like I winner in my book. If I had it to do over again I'd probably go with Becker, but I am stuck with those miserable Busses:) Oh well...
