I just got a new laptop and I am looking for a good case for it. Any recommendations? By the way it is a HP 6.7 pounder. Thanks.

REI Big Byte backpack and an Eagle Creek Laptop Vault

They had a bunch of different computer packs when school went back in session. I don't know what selection is like now.

Pick up some stuff sacks for the power brick, network cable, phone cable, mouse and all. Keeps things much simpler and untangled.

Don't forget a mousepad. My sister picked up a real thin tough one in Thailand at school there last summer. The perfect portable pad.

Dave, Here is the one I'm using:

It's a "Road Warrior" briefcase. Model "ICON200R-BLK"

Holds just about everything you might need. Available at Best Buy for $49. You can check it out on Bestbuys web page as well.

Check into the Timbuk2 messenger bags. You can get a laptop sleeve that rides comfortably and protects pretty well. I'm using a Dee Dog bag with the laptop sleeve and it's amazing how much extra "junk" I can throw in the bag. :) I think they even make laptop bags now.

Dude ~ If your work revolves around hazardous environment, you might consider having a Pelican protector case.. Its bomb-proof! :D check it out at www.pelican.com ;)

Bandit, the dimensions on that unit look rather small. Great if you carry very little else besides the notebook. But I find myself with a smattering of accessories, a graph paper notebook, a 3 inch CD case with many software and music CDs, Headphones, DVDs and on and on.

Additionally, that pack weighs about as much as your computer already weighs. That won't be fun.

Of course, buy what you like, these are just my opinions.

I've seen the backpack too. Lots of room and it's got a kind of stiff form, foam padding like the breifcase to protect the laptop.

In my breifcase, I carry the laptop, all the cords (including the charger for my cell phone), a tracball, 30 CD/DVDcarrier, two removable drives, headphones, assorted pens and paper and usually a magazine or two. With plenty of room to spare.

If I want to take my laptop in a pack, I put it in a Threeday pack I have laying around. Less padding, but I already have it around. The laptop slides right into the back pocket which stablizes it.

Sigh....I will be carrying a fairly large amount of stuff with me, so I guess I'll need a pretty big (and expensive) bag. I currently have a Timbuk2 bag that I carry all my work and play stuff in, but it has no padding for protection. I hate to make my Timbuk2 into a backup bag, but I guess I'll have to. I checked out the Mogwai from Timbuk2 for $95 but was hoping for something cheaper. If someone can recommend something in the same sort of vein as the Mogwai, that is cheaper, PLEASE let me know. Otherwise I'll just bite the bullet and spend the money on it. Thanks.

I have the largest backpack from
http://www.willow-design.com
which is a friendly Canadian company. It has served
me well with a large laptop for 3 years, and has been
used as a carry-on and flown to South America and back.
The extra compartments hold lots of clothes and documents.
