I have a large Case toothpick which I really like a lot. Wish it had a little thicker blade and scales though. Just got a cheap "fruit Knife" folder at a swap meet yesterday. I like it a lot. Would like a little thicker handle, longer blade and handle. I like the idea of wood handle, maybe bone, and larger blade. Full size, polished blade, easy to open and close, with nicer quality steel, fit and finish are the variables I am interested in.
I like certain qualities of both the knives below:

Any thoughts appreciated. I have a strong preference for single blade knives and would like something a bit beefier than the two knives listed above.

The Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Series V #4 large coke bottle would do nicely.
5-1/4" closed, wormgroove bone, ATS-34 steel, single clip blade.

case bradford cutlery series has a grandaddy barlow 61009 1/2 with big beefy blade. i dont have a picture of mine on here but could be a contender that fits your requirements.

GEC Powderhorn. It's a "toothpick", but more substantial than the Case.

Somebody like winterbottom bone . . . Ted . . . Ted?

I'm an infant when it comes to these kinds collections here who puts me to shame, maybe if we're knife, he'll show us some of his Winterbottom bone, he also has some nice size Back pocket type knife

A Fontenille Pataud 12cm laguiole would fit the bill. Basically a toothpick with a wider hand-filling handle.

Or a Basque Yatagan. I've got one by Thiers Issard in ram horn that is so burly and full in the hand.

Also consider a Daddy barlow by Case.

Tidioute toothpick
FP 11cm
Chambriard compagnon
TI basque yatagan
Case daddy barlow (pre-65)

Thanks Very much to all of you. I am excited about checking out everything mentioned. Will be going to the Shenandoah knife show and now know what to look at.

Mr. Hall, sir, given the example of the two knives you shw of what you like, there is only one choice for you. The Laguiole is the way to go. If you like the toothpick style, the laguiole is the close cousin. It may be from the other side of the big pond, but the family likeness is unmistakeable.

Carl.

I gotta agree with Carl, I have a Laguiole my sister in law gave me 12 years ago, I use it for dinner all the time.

I am having a great time checking out all the blades in the replies to my post. Now though, I want to branch out a little more. :) I like the big Barlows, plus of course the french knives, and more too.
Now for a different question, due to being new to the traditional world in general, but are certain brands famous for specific styles/patterns of knives? For example, is Case well known for the toothpick, coke bottles, peanuts, etc? What are GEC, Schatt&Morgan well known for?

Thanks again everyone.

You sound like a guy who eventually is going to message me and ask, I want a Buck knife folder, which one do you think I would like. And I would say, If you don't want a 110 then get to the Knife Show and find yourself a Buck Model 307 three blade stockman. It is a hand-full of folding stockman that will cut, gut, cleave, scrape or stab just about anything that you are going to encounter east of the Mississippi. They quit making them but plenty are around.

300Bucks

The base of this elk antler is a little under 3 1/2 inches across.
