Hi everyone! First post here at BladeForums!

I've been EDCing a Boker Plus Subcom Titanum in-waistband on my right hip for around two years. I absolutely love this knife, but recently I've been thinking about picking up a fixed blade. I'm open to any recommendations so long as they are:
  • Fixed blade
  • Small & unobtrusive (Somewhere around 4 1/2"-ish over all length)
  • Can be carried in-waistband or pocket (IWB preferred)
  • Don't break the bank (~$100 celling, I'd like to keep it under that if possible)
With this in mind, does anyone have a good recommendation for a fixed blade that has some of the similar qualities that I love in my Subcom?

Thanks!
-Troker

Fixed blades for IWB:
-Gryphon M10 w/ River City Drawpoint sheath.
-SOG Seal Pup w/custom Kydex.
-Spyderco Street Beat Bowies 3.5 & 5.5 inch blades.
I have owned and carried the first two for some time, ended up selling the M10 due to several factors but Mike's Kydex is awesome. The SP is my usual IWB knife, very comfortable and lightweight. Currently EDC a Busse AMS in the pocket or IWB, great little blade as well. Have not owned the SB bowies but lots of folks really like them and most kydex benders can whip up a sheath for them with ease. Hope that helps.

Boker Plus Rambler
$30 or less
Blue/Black G10 scales
440C blade

Mentioned this in a different thread. I'm not really trying to push the Rambler, but I figured some variety to these recommendations is usefull.
I see a bunch of izulas and beckers recommended, but you seem to like Boker Plus line already anyway.

One a different not, the Becker Necker is another small fixed on my want list. Its also around $35 or so.

I second the spyderco street beat, if you like smaller fixed blades also check it the spyderco enuff with leaf/drop point shape blade since you want it for SD (over the sheepsfoot/rescue blade) or the ESEE izula (izula 1= 3",izula 2=3.2"), also the ESEE-3 but that's a little less SD oriented but would still serve that purpose very well.

One thing to consider- no idea where you call home but many places have made it illegal to carry a fixed blade concealed... You can circumvent these silly laws by carrying a locking folder with the blade deployed in a sheath and conceal that legally, since its not technically a fixed blade. Just something to be aware of and consider.

You make a good point here - I'm in and around Boston, MA a lot so that was the impetus behind the small blade 'restriction'. I believe the only hard rule applied to fixed blade knives here in MA is that they cant be over 2.5". If anyone has info to the contrary please let me know.

I'm liking a lot of these suggestions but also thinking about either a Silent Solider or Nemesis Hellion, anyone have thoughts on either of those two?

Thanks,
-Troker

Do you not know that there's a fixed blade version of the SubCom? I think it might be discontinued, but it shouldn't be impossible to find.
Boker makes a dozen or so other knives of similar size to the SubCom Fixed, so you might want to check those out, too.
Also look at the CRKT Minimalist.

I am really liking my Survive! Knives Necker so far. Para 2 for comparison.

Ka-Bar TDI and the Brous Blades silent soldier are my two choices that I can think of off the top of my head.

Shadowtech Backup
I carry Bowie grind, small and powerful little IWB knife..... $80-$90
Handmade by a couple of guys from Ohio.... will do everything but break the bank!

How about the Spyderco Swick3? I don't have one yet, but it looks like a slick little blade (2.31")

Thanks for all your help guys! I think Im between the the Silent Soldier v1 and the Survive! Necker.

Can anyone comment on the sheath on the Necker? I'm wondering if I can reverse the clip front/back and if it supports horizontal/vertical carry.

If so I might watch the The Knife Exchange and see if I can't find a Survive Necker at a good price.

Thanks again,
-Troker

The sheath is adjustable for up/down and left/right carry. Could always keep an eye out for them on ebay. I recently found one for a friend for Christmas since I initially (see: foolishly) only ordered one for myself.
