Ok, I have been a lurker here for a bit but I'm overwhelmed. Long story short, I am looking to replace my rodent solution. It has great ergos but is a bit too at 3/16 and heavy for my purpose. If only in 1/8 or 5/32. "Sigh" I'm looking for your opinions.

Purpose of use in order
Day hikes
Field dressing game
Edc

Specs ranked by importance:
Ergos are key. The RS handle is super comfy. 3.5-4.0 in length. This opens the door to a lot of FF.
Under 6oz. One of issues with the rodent is its weight for sustained use.
At least 1" wide. I'm looking between 1-1.20 wide.
I prefer a bit of belly in my knives.

Possible options I've considered
Ladyfinge
Sneaky Pete/Asp
Bushfinger

Help me, I'm In over my head!!

I would take a look at the bolstered monarch just posted in the Fiddleback flea market. good price. Wide blade. Easier to carry than the 4" models. Have a look and let us know!

Welcome J mcrane! Lurkers are cool in my book because it means you are doing your research to make a wise purchase decision.

I have not owned a Fiddleback EDC II, but that looks like the model that most closely resembles the Rodent Solution profile to my eye. Of the models you mentioned, my favorites are the Sneaky Pete and "Old School" Ladyfinger. Based on your comments on disliking the blade thickness on the RS, I would suggest you look for Fiddlebacks in 1/8" thickness max and 3/32" ideally. "Thin" makes for a lighter knife that is a better slicer for most needs that occur in real life.

Please keep us posted with photos and comments when you score your first Fiddleback.

All good suggestions above. I would also take a look at the Bushcrafter and Bushcrafter Junior models. The Junior would of course be lighter as requested and easier to EDC. Both have a bit more belly than the models you listed above. Now, as far as egos are concerned, I think we can all attest to Andy's knives having some of the most comfortable handle shapes in the business. Which ever model you eventually decide on, I'm sure that you will be more than pleased with it's comfort.

Welcome to the subforum and good luck with your search.

it's the middle knife for those not familiar

Just based on your 'purposes of use' my first thought was the Patch model, though it may not fit your other specifications.

If you want more length the Lady Finger is great. Not familiar with the Monarch but I know a lot of people like that one.

Also, welcome!!

I have the Asp and Monarch currently- wear a Xl glove with short fingers for reference.

The Monarch is new to me so I cannot comment too much yet, The Asp I have used quite a bit= 1/8" convex with TT and canvas micarta slabs. It is an absolute joy in hand, on belt and in use. Light, secure and comfortable, very versitile blade shape that is strong yet thin enough to slice/carve. Well positioned tip for drilling and thin profile near tip for detail work. Mine is not for sale, period! But nice ones do come up.

The Monarch has very good potential to me for EDC, I just have not worked it enough for wood and food yet to give an opinion. It is 3/32 so feather light and very slicey.

Bill

Edit to add: I have also owned Hiking Buddies in the past and there is a reason they got that name :) 1/8" convex and TT makes a very light and extremely handy knife.
