I just started collecting knifes for different reasons. I own 5 right now and I'm looking to buy more. Right now I'm on a tight budget and I would like an affordable edc knife. I'm not looking for anything specific just that it's under $50. So any suggestions?

Take a gander over at some kershaw and crkt knives. They're affordable and a good deal for the money.
Definitely get your hands on a Spyderco Tenacious though. Under 50 same spyderco quality and build. Another to look at is, opinel or victorinox/wenger SAKs (swiss army knives )

This is an easy one.

The Ontario Rat II for around $30.

Great ergonomics, super sharp, opens and closes smooth as butter. A real steal for such a cheap price.

Check my mini review (here)

I was thinking kershaw too I own one and I'm really impressed and happy with it, spyderco I would definitely consider

Kershaw Skyline is a nice manual flipper with good steel that carries very well. If you want something bigger and tougher, take a look at a Cold Steel Voyager, the clip point version is a great slicer and the large gives you a lot of blade for only about 4.6oz and around $45.

Spyderco dragonfly is very nice. Kershaw Cryo and Cryo II as well.

Kershaw cryo was my first pick but I wasn't sure if I could maybe pick up something better but me personally I think only a spyderco could beat the deal of a cryo

There's so much great stuff out there at that price range, it's hard to recommend something without narrowing it down some. Are you wanting a knife to collect or one to carry? Folder or fixed? Traditional or modern? Size?

Quick list of what I'd buy at that price range:
Queen Cutlery Light Hunter Trout Knife.
Buck 119, or Pathfinder, or Woodsman.
AG Russell Featherlite.
Opinels, $50 would buy a few at different sizes.
Swiss Army Knives. So many to choose from!
Boker carbon steel pocketknife, or one from the Evergreen series.
Something from Case perhaps.
Scandinavian knife from Mora, Ahti, Brusletto, Marttiini, or Lapin.
Condor Bushlore.
AG Russell Bird and Trout, with the hard locking sheath.
An original USA Schrade Old Timer from eBay.

I don't mind what kind of knife it is I'd prefer a folder for edc but anything is welcome in my collection I don't own a fixed blade so I'm open to purchasing one just as long as its affordable and has good build quality

Another vote for Kershaw. The Cryo and Leek are great inexpensive knives. If your budget is flexible you can pick up a Spyderco Delica or Endura for $60-70. They are an incredible value and you definitely will not regret it.

I suggest a fixed blade then, just to gain the experience of owning and using one. I actually prefer a fixed blade for hiking, fishing, backpacking, etc.

For a fixed blade I was thinking the boker gnome just because of its conceal ability and I've heard it's a good blade but any other suggestions or opinions?

I took a quick look at pictures just now but have no experience. My initial impression from the photos is that the handle looks uncomfortable and the blade shape is less-than-useful.

Yeah it looks like it doesn't have much to grab on to unless I attach a lanyard to it and the blade looks like it won't be useful for anything other than some cutting I can't say it would work for any thrusting or stabbing motions

Cold steel makes a lot of knives in the $50.00 range you may like.
