Wow, it's clean in here. I'll take off my shoes.

I have recently been admiring some of the custom slipjoints in here and in the sale forum. I am ready to become a convert, but baby steps are in order.

I would like to start out with production knives, but am not a big fan of brass hardware or liners. :o:foot:

Can anyone point me in the direction of a reputable maker of slipjoints that offers patterns sans brass? I'm getting google fatigue.

Thanks!!

'Preciate ya takin yer shoes off. Elliott and Gus keep a clean cabin here...

I'm a lot tired and not thinkin real clear, but the first thing that comes to mind is the earlier Case knives that have NS liners and hardware.
You can still pick up a very nice specimen for fair amount of $$$.

My Canal Street is sans brass. Very well made.

Personally, I kind of like the brass. IMO it gives the knife a classy 2-tone look.
Oh Lord. I think I just dated myself.

Interesting thread. I've often wondered why brass predominates as a liner material anyway. Brass can and does create verdigris as a corrosive which may stain the bone on handles too .I've got the CS knife pictured and that's about he only one I can think of that doesn't do the brass. SAKs don't of course, old knives have steel/iron liners and a Fox n Hound lockback I own has stainless liners.

I haven't waved the Buck Flag in several days. So here are the Dymondwood versions, all stainless construction with leather sheaths. Bos heat treated 420HC. Top 301, left 303, Middle 309 and bottom the little "Sunday-go-to meetin'" 305. 300Bucks

300,

Are you sure the 301 and 303 in dymondwood have SS liners and bolsters? All the product descriptions say nickel silver. The plastic handles does have the ss liners and bolsters.

God Bless

nickel is pretty close to brass in composition. just a little different color.
a little verdi gris never ya, it wipes right off anyways.

The Queen City Cutlery Classics series uses nickel silver liners. My new english jack is my first knife with non brass liners and I must say, I LIKE!

KWL,
You are correct, Dymondwood, NickleSliver bolsters and liners all one piece, standard 300, SS liner and bolster. Knarfeng may know Bucks NS mixture, I can't find a quote I know I read, that their NS is pretty strong mixture. It has 'working' character (a little more) stout than brass ! I don't know if the new cherrywood version is NS or SS. Wanna see one with Dymondwood removed. I wanted to see how the Blue Anvil escutcheon was made......

But addressing the original question. No brass on 300s.
300Bucks

I like the lighter color on the top one

The Case/Bose collaboration models don't have brass or nickeled silver, IIRC, but you are in custom price range, though.

Interesting thread, though.

And a Dwight Devine with NS liners, although the center liner is brass, but it's fileworked.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Does anyone own a Case Black G-10 series knife? If so, are the liners brass?

dectia,I have a G-10 Slimline Trapper and that has brass liners. Damn fine knife and G-10 although 'modern' really suits a Traditional pattern-as does all micarta.
