My wife and I are taking a weekend trip to New Orleans this weekend and I was planning on sneaking out one afternoon to see what knife stores, if any, in the area have to offer. Any suggestions?

And in case you were wondering; yes I visit there often. I don't know if there is much of anything else; there used to be a Remington Knives and Shavers (?) in the Riverwalk. Don't know if I'll make it or not, I'm thinking of going by Saturday.

Hey man,

What brands do they carry and how big is the selection? I never knew about that place

By the way, that store is still in the RW but the selection is terrible. 15 - 20 decent knives

That's great! No matter how poor the knife store, it's almost guaranteed to be better than anything here in Dallas.

Thanks for the name. I'll see if I can check it out!

I'll have to check that out next week. That store at the Riverwalk was kinda sad. Any info on Charlie Dake? I have an old book that lists an address on Chef Menteur.

Lets see how many I can remember. Spyderco, Cold Steel, Boker, CRKT, Outdoor Edge, Microtech, Kershaw, Emerson, Al Mar, Benchmade, Ti-Nives, Buck, Case, Protech, SAK, probably others I can't remember. CRK

Prices usually higher than internet (big surprise), but, they are planning to go online (working on it). I think its a pretty nice variety; they will also order almost anything if they don't have it. I wasn't sure about the RW, don't go to N.O. much (except to work ).

Alpine is great and all, but the shooter's club has way lower prices. itis out of the way, in Kenner, but I just bought a ares for 100 bucks plus tax. When I called the remington store in the riverwalk, it gave me a message that there was a new number... in mississippi! Also, the only known loveless kitchen knives live in new orleans. Btw, all of us that are on here from the big sleazy should get together sometime

Yeeah, bra... Alpine iz da only place I can t'ink of dat hazza serious inventory of knives here in da Big EZ, brah. Here is what dey carry, off da toppa my head ... some lines have depth, others don't:

Benchmade
Spyderco
Emerson
Chris Reeve (folders)
Boker
SOG
Katz
CRKT
Buck
Microtech
Camillus CUDA (no BK&T unfortunately)
Meyerchin
some Scandinavian stuff
some Ontario stuff
Henckels
Wustoff
a couple custom Elishewitz' that have been there for well over a year
a bunch of cheap stuff, brands I can't remember.

They don't carry anything higher-end than Seiko in the watch area.

And they are expensive for knives... pretty much retail. So I end up browsing there, since I've tried to bargain with them in the past with no success (it is a storefront, and they don't always have 10 deep on popular knives like MT, BM, Spydie).

Alpine is on Vets between Bonnabel and West End Blvd if that helps, near Puglia's Sporting Goods on the north/lake side of Vets. About ....oh ... 5-6 blocks east of Bonnabel. (Take I-10 to Bonnabel, exit and turn north/towards the Lake, right/east on Vets).

DiJos, where and what is the shooter's club?

Alpine is pretty much it in NOLA that I know of. The Remington store is full retail with a small selection. The Alpine has prices a little lower than full retail, pretty good for a retail store. I think they claim to have 5000 knives in stock. Most brands are there and some customs.

Just visited both Alpine and Shooter's Club. Shooter's Club is at 501 David drive (504)733-1295 Excellent prices for a B&M, very near net prices. Alpine is quite pricey. 140 for a Boker/Brend tactical in G10, 360 for an LCC D/A, 145 for a BM 42, 140 for a Protech California Stinger, 1150 for a Katz fixed blade with scrim on one side of it's ivory micarta handle. One side of their sign said 5000 knives, the other said over 3300. Huge selection (even some Elishewitz handmades) I may end up ordering a CS Arc Angel from Shooter's Club, he only wants 170. But his distributor doesn't have any right now.

sorry, I would have responded, but I've been up to my eyeholes in schoolwork..spring break can't come soon enough:eek:

Whoa. Nice to see a bunch of folks from jefferson parish. Alpine is has a wide variety of knives but everyone is correct. there prices are kinda high. When you go to the store the guy that owns the place is named Albert. He's hearing impared so look directly at him and speak up a little when asking to look at a knife. Last time i went there (several weeks ago) he said he is getting a load of Cold Steel stuff in the near future. The shooter's club has a very limited selection but the prices are much better than Alpine's. There is a hardware store that still has some really old benchmades no one in that neighborhood would ever pay for .... can't remember which models ... in harahan. The only other place that has knives is the army surplus store in kenner on williams. Not really great selection: some crkts, a few Ka-bars, a few Cold Steels, and lots of cheap imports.
