I recently recieved a Mnandi and wanted to know what is the recommended method of taking care of the wood inlays? Mineral oil?

Also is the wood without a finish or is it laquer coated?

The wood should be stabilized. "Ren" wax, etc. can be used on the wood.

I've used Murphys Oilsoap on my Cumming knife that has Cocbola with good results. However Cocobola isnt a stabilized wood, so there may be a difference on stabilized wood.

How about Briwax? I use it on my Celtic knot wood carvings. It's caranuba and bees wax.

If fact if you call CRK and ask real nice, they might send you some of what they use. It kind of reminds me of furniture polish.

CRK; Anne told me that they use to stabilize the wood until they started using denser hardwoods. I asked about the Briwax and she said that is fine. The only problem is that the wax doesn't last long when your handling the knife all the time.

Handling the knife a lot over time on unwaxed wood will probably impart it's own polish from contact with the hand, although not in equal proportion and not all over the wood's surface. I would say to perhaps keeping the waxing to the times you want to show off the knife's visual beauty to those who might appreciate it. Afterwards, yes, the wax will tend to wear away in certain spots and it becomes apparent in comparison to the areas of the wood that are not handled. Sort of the inverse to my first sentence.

Thanks for starting this thread Xeno. I've been needing to spiff up my African Blackwood Mnandi and now I know what wax to use. I'll do a couple of before and after shots and post them whenever I get done. ;)
