I love the outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking and others but often find it really hard to find decent pants that don't chaff the fronts of my thighs. Quite a few pair of pants in fact get uncomfortable after less than a mile hiking, especially in hot weather, which is quite more common since I moved to the North Carolina region over back home in the UK. What I would like is some recommendations for US brands that I can find that won't bankrupt the pants, but really help cut down on the chaffing and pain caused.

Any ideas?

Is it the fit or the fabric? Look at Columbia, Mountain Hardware, The North Face, etc..or www.sierratradingpost.com

By "US Brands" do you mean products made in America? Cause that will shorten the list very quick. I've had some Gramicci pants and shorts that were US made.

I really like the amphibious cloth of the new tad gear f10 cargo pants, they're very light and comfortable. Kinda pricey tho, I think they were over a hundred bucks... The newest line of bear grylls craghopper pants have an all stretch version that I dont have in hand yet but I suspect will also be super comfortable :)

I forgot to add, if you don't think it would make you too hot, you may just want to try wearing compression shorts underneath whatever pants you're already wearing, just make sure theyre a good fit for you so they don't creep around too much

North Face Paramount pant.
Light, fast drying, very tough (I've had mine for 3 seasons). Don't look bad either.

If you were in Canada I'd suggest the MEC Rad pant. Regardless, choose something non-cotton so that it wicks yet feels dry.

If you want to go cheap get a pair of Dickies Carpenter pants, I have done several walks and they are great, they make a pair of shorts out of those pants that are great also. I picked up the pants and shorts for about $22.00 bucks each.

I really like Propper brand ACU pants. i am not too sure about the acu,but they are a nylon/cotton blend that seems almost as cool as wearing shorts

where in NC do you live? yes it gets very humid here in the summer/fall. all of your good hiking outdoor brands work well (mtn hardware, north face, oxofficio, etc).. also you should look into using a powder of some sort. sounds silly but it works. i use gold bond powder when i know i am going to be sweating my balls off. works pretty good

I don't know what you rock for undergarments, but when I backpack compression shorts or quality boxer briefs are chafe savers.
