Who do you buy your leather from? and who do you recommend?
I am in the market for two sides, one brown, one black and would like some options on who to buy from.
Also what weight do you recommend? I have been using the 9,10 oz but am wondering if I need thaat much weight for what in most cases is a display knife rather that an active user.
Thanks for the help.
Steve

Howdy Steve. I personally work with (no particular order) : Weaver, Hide House and Sheridan Leather Supply. Occasional purchases from Springfield Leather. All four have websites but I order over the phone, seems to work better. I use 7/8 oz veg tan for the vast majority of my sheaths and they are for the most part very active users so should provide plenty of durability for your display pieces. Also there is enough weight there to tool well without the distortion problems of lighter leather.

Steve, I have used Wickett & Craig exclusively for several years. They do have a presence in Canada which may be of benefit to you particularly in terms of shipping.

The Tannery Warehouse Toronto 1 866 232 2081 or 416 849 9046
Moore-Pearsall Tannery Warehouse Toronto 416 789 3123
Bank Bros. and Son LTD Toronto 416 762 7771

I assume they offer the same services as the USA Tannery which includes drum dyed leathers and a free splitting service, along with many different types of leather. I personally use skirting sides split to 7/8 oz. in five different colors, Russet, Black, Brown Chestnut and Havana.

I hope this may be of some help to you.

Paul
