I was just wondering what would be a recommended set of tools for basic upkeep of your typical Busse knives, materials/grind taken into account.

I hear INFI is very non-problematic as far as sharpening goes, but I ask because I like to backpack and want to know if a double-sided diamond impregnated steel and maybe a leather belt (w/ or w/o jewlers rouge) would be suffecient to keep one of these things sharp.

You can carry a sharpmaker in you pack if you wanted too.

I just carry a small diamond steel or a Ceramic rod.

I wonder why Jerry never took the Busse sharpener into production. The prototype is really good.

That's what I use – though, admittedly, I suck at sharpening.

 Enlighten us newbies please.

+1... Busse sharpener?! Sounds very interesting...

It was a prototype that some of us, myself included, tested. It was never put into production. It's a small, flat piece of porcelain covered aluminum, about an inch wide, and about 4 inches long. It has rounded edges, for sharpening serrations, and it has a groove down the middle, on one side, for sharpening tips or sharpening hooks.

It's item #40 in this picture of my (old, previous version) PSK:

EZE Lap makes some fine credit card sized diamond hones. The Fallkniven DC4 works real well too.
