Recommended roller luggage?

Hey all, i'm planning an international flight in the near future, although the stay will be brief (approx 7-10 days). Would anyone recommend roller-style luggage of a particular brand that I might use. Unfortunately, I am planning on checking the bag, so fitting it into an overhead compartment is not necessary. But this luggage does not need to be overly large, I am not a heavy packer. Durability is my primary concern. Are there any other features you might suggest in luggage to which I should be concerned?

thanks!

I have used Samsonite hard cased luggage for my travels internationally and domestically for the past 20 years. I can travel up to a few dozen times a year and need luggage to stand-up to airline handlers. The soft-sided ones don't last as long as they can get crushed, cut and torn. Hard cases do better when being thrown about -as long as they have good locks on them (stay with well known brand names).

I have been upgrading to Zero Haliburton aluminum cases, but if you don't travel often, you don't need to invest that much in your luggage.

Pelican 1510 for a carry-on. Highly recommend.

awwww yea. i forgot about pelicans.

this is exactly what i'm looking for.

thanks *five.* and thanks CWL. i always get the best answers from this forum.

Eagle Creek makes some great bags, and with their system you can get a really organized well planned suitcase.

I don't have a particular brand recommendation but something to keep in mind: At the airports, especially the baggage carrousels, are millions of pieces of black nylon luggage. Do yourself a favor and choose a color that'll stand out from a distance.

Maybe not what you're looking for, but it's what I use. Waterproof, super durable, and easy to spot. The backpack-style shoulder straps make it a breeze for carrying through the terminal or across the airport parking lots. And the super-durable zippers are as good as any I've ever owned:

I carry two of these, one for personal gear and street clothes, and one packed with work clothes and mine boots.

On the last flight it was pouring rain in L.A. When we got to Sydney everyone's clothing was soaked except mine; the luggage must have sat out on the tarmac for a while.

My carry-on bag is an older (discontinued) nylon briefcase from Duluth Trading Co. It holds my personal electronics, magazines, laptop computer and accessories, magazines, toiletry kit, notebook and writing supplies, and an extra set of clothes.

I almost forgot...

For Christmas I bought my mother a piece of rolling luggage for frequent travel on Amtrak. After much research, I selected the Mountainsmith Discovery 26.

Something to look into?

I travel a lot and have been very impressed with my eBags Mother Lode eTech mini (http://www.ebags.com/product/ebags/mother-lode-etech-mini-21-wheeled-duffel/68256?productid=837488). I carry-on always and it fits just right in the overhead bin. Based on my experience with this particular bag, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another eBag brand bag.

I also own a large Eagle Creek rolling duffel (for checking) and it is bombproof. Can't go wrong with Eagle Creek. Mine is just a simple rolling duffel, one compartment, nothing fancy, that is about 3' long. Super simple, basically nothing can go wrong on it.

I'm with James May (Top Gear etc) "Nothing testifies to the enfeeblement of our sex quite like a bag with wheels on it... If you can’t lift your case, you’ve packed too much stuff."

24" TravelPro Platinum! They work great and are durable. I prefer it over the hard sider's that seem to spring open on their own - randomly.

The Maxpedition Fliegerduffel works well as a carry on for a change of clothes and some reading material.
