Hi all,
I'm looking for a field knife to add to my collection and would like to hear your suggestions.
It would be a one-and-only tool, so needs to be able to do fine work as well as heavy stuff like shelter building. I favor smoothish handles to rubberized grips, which tend to give me blisters. The blade should be stainless of some sort, mostly because I hate the taste of fruit cut by a high carbon blade. I like a 5-7 inch blade that isn't too pointy to skin with and isn't too fat to slice with. No upswept tips, sharpened clips, or serrations - simple is best. Weight is not a huge concern. Less than $100 is preferred.
I am rethinking my moratorium on chopping, just for this knife. I like the looks of the BK & T Combat Utility 7 a lot, but it isn't stainless. What are your thoughts on chopping, say, 2-3 inch diameter green wood, with this knife versus using a folding saw? I would expect a knife that can chop to be next to useless for finer work.
Scott
