So I know that G10 is a great, strong, and reliable material. I love the CS Recon 1, as a mid priced tactical EDC, it's great. But I want liners, and slightly less grippy G10. It'd be awesome if that was an option for this knife, or maybe a new design spin off. I know the original version had liners and was a little different, but I think the new design, with CS's Tri-ad lock, would be as robust as I can as I can hope for if it had liners. Anyone agree/disagree? Anyone really push the Recon 1 to it's breaking point?

Less grippy G10 would be nice on all their stuff. The liners are another story. The linerless G10 handles on these knives are plenty strong for any conceivable purpose. It's been said that something else in the knife would probably fail before the G10 slabs, and this was shown to be true in at least one case. Cutlerylover on youtube tried to get the slabs to let go by jamming the blade into a tree and torquing on the handle. He ended up breaking the blade off, and the G10 scales were still fine, with all the internal components still tight and where they should be. Then there's this :D :

In a word, no.

Remember they've hung over 300 pounds on these knives without breaking anything. The G10 is stronger than the blade.

To paraphrase a well known quote from a movie: "Liners? We don't need no stinkin' liners". Absolutely unnecessary.

Amici,
Out of curiosity, has any similar test been done regarding the "grivory" stabbed versions as on the voyager series as well as the spartan?

Cheers,
Serge

maybe collectors version of Recon 1 with CNC titanium handle with g10 or carbon fiber inserts like CNC aluminum handle with g10 inserts on Rajah I ?
That would be a perfection!

The Recon 1 does not need full liners. I normally prefer liners. However, the thick slabs of G10 combined with that incredible lock make for a stout knife. I would never buy a Voyager. I had one flex badly on me during a rescue years ago and though the knife did not break, neither was I able to do what needed doing. The Recon 1 will not do that. There are some incredible videos of these knives taking some serious abuse, far more than mere weight added to a handle. There is even a CS video of these knives (and a Russian one) being repeatedly thrown into a hard wood target with no ill effects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVWkE3OsSqs

Was it the new Voyager with Grivory over aluminium liners, or the old Voyager with no liners?

I understand the old Voyager wasn't particularly strong (although it was very light) but my own Voyagers are dead solid.

It's French, Bastinelli and Fred Perrin throwing full size and mini lawman repeatedly:

I usually prefer liner as well, but in Lawman/Recon/AK's case, they are redundant. They have demonstrated that it will provide enough lateral stress to hold a person. Check out Andrew Demko's video about him standing on Lawman on the side:
