Recon 1 closing problem

I finally purchased a CS Recon 1. I found that it is extremely hard to close. It sometimes takes up to 20 seconds and many depressions on the back to get it to close. It feels as if something is binding. I did some searching on here and found leaving it partially open for a week or so will make it close easier. I was wondering if anyone found a better way? I hate to have to sit this aside for a week or so and let it collect dust when I purchased it to carry and use. If so I am kinda disappointed with dropping a decent amount of money on a folder and then having to let it sit for a week or so.

Amici,
I had the same problem with mine at first, but it corrected itself with use & time.

There are also some vids on YT that explain if you take the knife apart and I believe remove the torsion bar that acts as a spring with the triad lock, then wahlaa problem fixed.

I guess that would work, but I would just use the knife opening & closing it any chance i get until it breaks itself in..

Cheers,
Serge

Mine was tight at first as well. Now the blade falls when I depress the lock. Just keep using it.:D

Leaving the knife half open works well. However, with mine, I just kept opening and closing it and now it is probably the smoothest knife I own.
The Triad lock is basically a lockback with a longer claw and deeper cut on the tang. Plus, it angles in a bit. These will drag a bit when new. Tolerances are tight, so the knife must wear in and the spring needs breaking in, too.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. This is the first CS that I actually intend on carrying and using. I had a Voyager years ago but I do not remember having these troubles. I think I will play with it :) and during the night I will keep it opened up and hopefully soon it should be good to go. It is frustrating not being able to close it easy ugh. I do think that I will really like this knife. Yes I went with the tanto ;)

I did a combo of leaving it open at various angles and oiling the spot where the tension bar contacts the lock bar. Then I took the knife apart and removed the coating from where the lock bar contacts the blade, and a few drops of oil. Now the blade falls if I press the lock bar, and its a breeze to unlock.
