Recon 1 Folder bit me

Some of y'all might remember a while back when I said I got 8 stitches in my right index finger. I have been crazy busy and it is one of 3 things I meant to get a pic of posted up but didn't have time.

Here it is. This was a result of complacency, on my part. No excuse for what I did. I simply neglected to show as much caution as I should have and paid for it. This has effected my shooting (important for work), tying my shoes, etc.

That said, the edge on the Recon 1 Folder is one of the two best factory edges I have ever seen on a knife. It is a LASER. Only one knife I have seen that is comparable and I think the Recon actually has it beat.

Hopefully it missed your tendons. That is a fairly complicated repair…ask me how I know!
Really? Man, that's crazy to hear. Hope you got close to 100% recovery. Doc tells me - wherever I am, at the 90 day mark, is (for the most part) where I am staying. I have most of the flexibility back but am still working on the strength (I drop things out of nowhere). My tendon was not severed but I'm sure I touched it. First thing I did, while driving to the hospital with my left hand, was make sure I could curl it. That gave me some piece of mind (knew when tendon was attached).

Hope all heals well and quickly. My experience with Cold Steel factory edges, at least so far, is that they are frighteningly sharp. Cutting cardboard the other day with a new one, I felt an incidental bump on one hand, thought nothing of it, kept cutting, and wondered where the blood on the floor was coming from. Turns out I had cut the base of my left index finger. Nothing like your stitch-needing cut, but enough to let me know that, as careful as I thought I was, I wasn't...

Yeah, knife bites aren't fun. After the esee 4 went through my ariat boot into my right foot I couldn't walk without cruches for almost a month.
I suggest biting your recon back, maybe it'll turn into a love type thing

Oops, quoted the wrong poster.

Ok, that's actually really embarrassing. I was preparing to do a "comparison" video. One of the topics I wanted to cover was "jimping". I was going to show how the Manix II XL has INSANE jimping and explain how it has actually taken a chunk out of my thumb. Then I was gonna show that the Recon 1 achieves the same "lock in" without so much jimping, due to its handle shape. To demonstrate, I grasped the blade with my left hand and force my right hand forward to simulate an impact from thrusting into a hard target. A "your hand is going nowhere" type thing. And.... slid right over the guard and on to the blade. Turns out, as uncomfortably abrasive as it is, the Manix jimping does make a huge difference lol. All my friends were disappointed to hear this was the prep and not the actual video. They were dying to see the oops lol.

Yeah, inside that knuckle is a bad spot. Easy to tear out stiches if you are not careful. I would recommend you baby that hand while it heals
I got it in the exact same spot on my dominant hand with a machete years ago being stupid.

Actually, I DID tear out my stitches. Got some bad info off a nurse who did not see it until after it was wrapped. She didn't realize exactly where it was and told me to work the finger back and forth to avoid losing mobility. Yea, that didn't turn out well. Added a week to my "light duty" time.

Make sure you follow all the advice from your PT & doctor. I did and my finger is at 95% which is really good considering they had to fish out my tendon and re-attach it. Thankfully it was only my little finger, so even in a worst case scenario I would still retain major functions.

Hope everythings ok man! I had something similar happen to me about a year ago. I closed a Jack Wolf knife on my finger and had to get 3 stitches.

Sorry you hurt yourself dude. Now you'll be picking left handed until that digit heals up. Also, just tell'em to do a John Wayne square knot on the tendon and you'll be fine.
