Hey y'all,I am new here and this is my first post,I have 2 older recon 1 large folders and are extremely sharp, been carrying for years, also have an older recon carbon v 7 " again very sharp, then I bought a mini recon (aus8) and can't get it sharp to save my life, trying different sharpeners, still won't get sharp,is it the steel or is it me?has anyone else have this problem?does anyone know what kind of steel was in the older recon 1's?thanks for your advice and help...

How are you sharpening it? The steel on the newer Recon models would be AUS-8A if I'm not mistaken, the steel takes one of the sharpest edges I've ever had but it loses it relatively quickly. But it makes up for it in ease of sharpening.

Yes,sorry meant aus 8a,since I don't know the edge angle,I think I would have to start with a new angle, tried lansky sharpening system, lansky wood box, smith angle rods,stones,strops..etc,think since I,'m not too good at sharpening ,I'll buy a belt grinder with angle guides

AUS-8 and AUS-8A are the same steel, "A" just comes annealed from the factory. Most times when people are having trouble getting a new knife sharp, it's because the factory bevel angles are steeper than they think, and they are only hitting the shoulders of the edge bevels. The usual and best advice is to color the entire edge bevel on both sides of the blade with a Sharpie and then start sharpening. This will clearly show where the sharpening medium is abrading the bevels. Once you see this, you can adjust to make sure you get clear to the apex and start raising a bur.
