I've decided on the Cold steel recon 1, but now i need your input, personal preference, and or experience with either blade shape.
thank you

I have a Clip Point Recon 1. I find it useful for most tasks, an imagine that the Spear Point would be similar performance-wise.

Tanto points are useful for EDC, nevermind what others said. Prying, scraping, using the secondary point as a box/envelope cutter, stout and thick point for awkward and tough piercing tasks, and is a really easy shape when sharpening needs arise.

I love and carry many tantos, including the Cold Steel Gunsite Tanto, a Utilitac Tanto, a couple Ganzo, HARNDS, Enlan models and I have used many tanto fixed blades for camping and otdoors (namely the SOG Tsunami, a couple cheap RUI-branded tanto blades, a Ka-Bar tanto as well) and found them as useful as other more conventional blade shapes.

Except for carving.

Sure, the cool-factor is there, but don't discard this particular blade shape for EDC, defense and other knife related activities.

Depending on your intended use, though, you may prefer to chose other blade styles. If you could specify...

Both blade shapes will serve you well since you will tailor your use to which ever one you have. Personally I like to have a curved belly for slicing.

I personally prefer the spear point for the look, and uses. I do own Tanto knives, it's very useful for around the house and EDC tasks. For outdoor tasks it's a little more difficult, guess i'm not that skilled. But in the end, it's all personal preferences, go with the one you feel like. If you have friends with tanto knives, see if you can borrow one for a week to see if you like it yourself! Cheers!

I find tanto to be less versatile for daily utility type.

The spear point is plenty stabby if needed and more useful.

I'm not a tanto guy. I do understand why some folks love them. I have the spear point recon 1 and really dig it.

The Spear Point is a good compromise between the Tanto and Clip.

I wasn't that fond of them at first, but they have become a great part of my EDC when I rotate them through.

Craytab, what is the satin fixed blade with the sawtooth spine?

SOG Seal pup elite Plain edge. Fantastic small;medium fixed blade on a budget. It is not really saw tooth spine, more of a rasp.

The knife and sheath (modded) combo is the smallest form factor of a knife this size I have. Carrying it today.
