I know the ziptie wave mod is old news and some people hate it, but just thought I would share this in case anyone is interested.
The original recon 1 came with a wave plate, but the newer version just has a thumbstud.When I removed the thumbstud to thoroughly strip that black crap off the blade, I realized this knife was a perfect candidate for the ziptie mod.
The thumbstud looks like a screw but is actually two pieces. Just hold the bottom part with pliers while unscrewing the top.
Since the ziptie hangs off to the side a bit it functions as well as the thumbstud for normal opening. Also if I left the blade black (or used a silver ziptie) it wouldnt look bad at all.
