Bit of a spread on the prices, but you get the basic idea... ~7" coated carbon steel blade for moderate utility.

Pros, cons for each?

I recently aquired a camp tramp and it's a pretty impressive piece. What I like:
1) The handle fits well and is very secure and sturdy
2) The cut-out at the back of the blade allows you to choke up for wonderful control...can work like a smaller knife when needed.
3) Thick, wide blade with great balance.
4) Edge retention and strength seems great
5) Good chopper for the length and thin enough to slice effectively as well.
6) great warranty and reputation
7) Price is great considering quality...Differential Hardening for the price! Amazing

Get the CS Recon Scout if you might have a need to pry things apart, as it has a VERY thick, stout blade. If you are looking for a knife that cuts and slices very well, then the Becker BK-7 is what you need.

This topic has been discussed many times in recent weeks and months. Experienced users of these forums should be able to do a search and decide for themselves which knife is best for them.

This post sounds harsher than I meant.

guess I should have tried the search function first, I forgot to renew my gold membership in time, I thought it wasn't available to basic members.

Nope, basic members can search...otherwise I owe a few years of gold membership fees. :D

By the way, I have to throw in here and say that the Camp Tramp would be my hands down favorite, but if not then I'd go with the Becker 7. Both Swamp Rat and Becker stick behind their products, whereas Cold Steel has to be caught on a good (and possibly drunk) day in order to get any help on a product you've actually had the temerity to use.

Of course, the chances of something going wrong with a Rat or Becker is pretty slim in the first place. I own both, and the Rat just works better for me (more comfortable, even sturdier) but both are excellent knives. The Recon Scout stopped selling/being produced a few months after Swamp Rat appeared. I'm not saying there's a direct corollation, but...
:D
