Can this knife be sharpened? I haven't had a problem sharpening other knives, but this thing gets only slightly sharper than a Denny's steak knife no matter what I do.

If not, I was thinking of lopping off the tip and grinding the end into a bottle opener. Do you think I could do it with a Dremel?

thanks!

Take a black sharpie marker. Color the edges black, now sharpen as you have been. Examine edge with at least a 7x more magnifier. I would be willing to bet that there is still black on the cutting edge. Wherever there is not black is where you are at with the stone or sharpener. Certain knives need extensive reprofiling if you are not following the factory grind. If the edges are not getting touched its not the knife, its the guy sharpening. And when reprofiling a knife, it can take a long time, till you remove enough metal to get to the edge. The Recon is big thick edge, you may be used to thinner edges at steeper angles. Also to make matters worse it seems sharp when you get close to the edge, but the marker always tells the truth. Until a few swipes on the stone eliminate any marker on the edge, your not really all the way there yet. Never fails. A sure test.

I've sharpened knives this thick before, but I bet that you're right. I'll give the marker trick a shot. Thanks for the help.

Ten bucks? I'll give you ten-fifty! ;)

The magic marker should help, it's what I used, and my RS is shaving sharp. I'm sure that yours can be, too.
