I know there have been some reported failures of the RS when used for batoning.
Tang radius and/or improper technique has been blamed for some of these failures.
Anyone heard of any being broken when used for chopping?

I have a Carbon V model that has done some chopping with no issues. I have retired it and now own a SK5 version. It has been used for cutting tasks but nothing heavy. I don't have any plans to baton with it but I'm wondering if it would be durable enough to survive heavy use as a chopper if there is an issue with the tang radius?
Would such an issue be problematic in chopping as well as batoning?

Any input would be appreciated!

My understanding is that all the blade/tang failures are from batoning, not chopping. It is also my understanding that CS corrected the blade/tag problem by making the transfer "radiused", so that s no longer a problem.
If anyone has info that this is not the case I'd like to hear about it myself.

I believe they have a radius in the transition now and have seen said transition on Laredo from Taiwan SK-5 series. I, myself have not had the SMIII Trail Master fail with chopping use after 7 years and a few hundred cross cuts. I would like to see also the new knives naked.

Thanks for the link!
I wonder if the change was started in the china made models or later with the current manufacturer?

CS China production on the TM/RS was only in 2006, possibly into 2007 after which it became Taiwan.
I would guess that the change took place after Taiwan production was fully established.

I wish CS would make a smaller version. Maybe a 5" blade. That would be nice.
