Been thinking about grabbing an O-1 Scout or TM. Which do you prefer and why ? I'm leaning toward the Scout as it is coated and slightly smaller/less weight. Any opinions before I press the key are appreciated.

I have them both and love them both. It's a tough choice. The two inch difference is minimal and is only really seen in chopping. The coating is the biggest difference. I could never choose so I have 5 of each. :D

Only have the TM, want to try the RS. Not sure what I'd use it for though. They're a bit thick to do any real cutting, and also a bit thick to baton well. And heck, my TM will chop, but the handle will *eat* your hand without gloves. Still one of my favorite knives, if a bit impractical. Which is probably why I haven't got a RS yet.

Trailmaster!

You said yourself in another thread, You don't like batonning big stuff so the RS would more accommodating because it has less length, and is lighter and more compact because of it. At the same token the knife you spoke of before was the Leatherneck, which is similar to the RS minus some thickness. So if you're going to pick one, you might as well go with something new that is more capable when you need to have it so.

Any San Mai III in either model to round out that collection?

Good insight. I tend to get a bit feverish in my buying. Winter is the apex. It is harder to get out in the cold and with those life commitments...., and even before the ground thaws I'm out there swinging a metal detector. It kind of bothers me that I get feverish to the point of dising/almost being bored with a knife that I just got a week or so ago. It's good to be reminded to smell the roses now and then. And with this said, I have an order coming in and I'm debating what to get next, lol. :o But detecting season is around then bend so some new coils for my detectors may start dominating the direction of my hard earned pennies. :)
