A few days ago I posted a few pictures of my Tanto and got back some great info from you folks on it. Hopefully, here are pictures of my Recon Tanto that I traded for in the mid-80s. I would appreciate any info on it as far as date, rarity, etc. I know by the rules that I can’t ask for a price estimate. Its been my constant knife since I bought it. The Velcro on the front of the sheath helped stabilize it when I wore it hidden. Thanks for any info.I hope it’s considered a keeper. Photobucket will not let me access it. I’m trying a Google photos. What photo sharing do y’all use for postings? Thanks again!

Well, that didn’t work. Will keep trying!

All of the formerly useful photo-hosting sites are failing me these days, too. I don't know what's changed. I just tried a new one, postimages.org, and it worked (for now).

Your knife is the moderately scarce (but not unobtainable) U.S.-made Recon Tanto. You can read about some of its background in jlauffer's excellent Tanto history, now "stickied" at the top of the subforum. What's contained there is all that's currently known about that model (for instance, we don't know who the manufacturer was, though that might be surmisable if we knew for certain the inclusive dates of manufacture).

That model is one of my personal favorite versions of the Tanto, mostly because it was manufactured domestically and I liked the subdued, bead-blasted finish, despite the fact that it made the knife subject to rust if not cared for. I mentioned lusting after one belonging to an Army buddy (who bought it back when it was new, around the time you got yours) in my Cold Steel Knives In Combat thread, if you're interested.

It's a great knife and yours looks to be in pretty good shape for its years/miles. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much Steve. I’ll try post images to see if I have better luck. I’ve had the recon about 30 years now and carried it a lot. A little beat up but still impressive!
