Recon Tanto Sheath Advice

I have this Cold Steel Recon Tanto that I've carried as a "car knife" wedged between my seat for years, heck I don't even recall when I bought the knife, anyhow the kydex sheath is breaking a couple of spots. I've been looking online at a few companies that make leather sheaths, apparently very few actually make them for this knife. I'm curious if anyone has recommendations for any companies, or companies to avoid.

If the main part of the sheath is ok, and it’s only the belt loop portion that’s broken, check out sagewood gear; they make belt loop attachments that could replace the original one.

I don't know who makes one, but can tell you that this version will NOT fit the current Secure-Ex sheath.

If the sheath itself is OK maybe buying a new Recon Tanto when it is on sale and switching belt loops might work.

You are right, no one I am aware of offers a leather sheath for any of the CS tantos.
RK Custom Kydex offers a sheath for the Recon Tanto for like $36.
There are several Kydex shops $40-50 range. Pancake or Taco.
Or as suggested above if the belt attachment is the only thing broken, try to get
a replacement from Sagewood.

Welcome to Bladeforums egp.

If the kydex part (the part the blade goes into) is still good I would cut the stiches that attach the broken plastic piece to the nylon web loop, cut and punch a piece of leather to replace the plastic piece, and sew it onto the web loop where the plastic piece was. Or I might rivet it in place.

I got the current production version of the recon tanto, and the standart ka-bar 1217 leathersheath fits just fine. I only added a piece of leather at the button snap to thicken it, so it holds the knife securely in. I think the sheath was somewhere around 15 bucks when I bought it.

Have you ever thought about just slipping the sheath under your belt "sash style"? There's enough of a ridge at the top of the sheath that it will stay in place without the nylon belt loop.

One of the few companies I've found is Patriotworks leather, they show several sheaths available for this knife, very pricey, but nice looking.

The main part is cracked in a couple of places

I don't carry it on me physically, I drive rideshare on the weekends, and it's either wedged between my seat and console, or tucked under my leg, carrying a firearm isn't always possible
