I contacted Cold Steel about a different sheath for my old Recon Tanto . They told me that the factory sheath would fit it . I asked if there was a better fitting sheath since the factory sheath is for a 7" blade & my knife has a 6" blade . I got no response . Anyone know of a better sheath than buying one that is too big ? Keep in mind I have the original Recon Tanto with the bead blast finish & the brass pommel & finger guard . Great knife with a nylon sheath .

If I were you I would just have one made for it. There are some kydex and leather sheath makers around here that I'm sure will fix you up. You will probably have a hard time finding an original sheath though. Good luck on your hunt.
 
I would ask them if they still have any leather sheaths for the Master Tanto or Outdoorsman...they were still in the 2015 catalog, so they could have some laying around. If not, you could try the Secure-Ex sheath from the newer Nightfall 3V Master Tanto, but being a "hard" sheath it may not fit perfectly, and not sure how easy it would be to modify. Another option, if you use eBay, is to look for a cheap Tanto clone from guys like Fury, Parker, Taylor, Valor, etc. Can typically find them in the $25-$30 range and they often have decent leather sheaths that are almost identical to the ones CS used to provide. If it was me 1" wouldn't matter with the alternatives you have. Use the 1" too long and take care of it while you look for the correct one(Ebay has them from time to time) then sell the long one. You could use a Secur-Ex one but I shudder to think what that blade(bead blasted) will look like after numerous insertions( If that doesn't bother you then a good alternative).
That is USA made right?

The Factory 7" sheath will not be suitable with your original Recon Tanto ... different handles mean different lockup. If you don't like the nylon sheath you have you will either have to get a leather sheath made for the Master Tanto, or have one custom made, depending on what your intended use of the knife will be.
