My brother was home for a few days on leave from Iraq and we went for a hike. I noticed he was carrying a cold steel recon tanto. I mostly turn my nose up at tantos because they are not as useful for utility. I have an old one from back when I was a young infantry soldier that has never been used because I bought a smaller knife. As we went through the weekend he used it constantly just as I did my BK-7 and it did extremely well. So yesterday I took mine out of its box and really put it through hell and it did awesome batoning through a 2x4 length wise then chopping through some strange tall grass bush thing my wife planted (oops). I was really impressed with the knife and it resharpened quickly and very easily. Does anyone else carry any tanto shaped knives?

I carry a Cold Steel Master Tanto on my belt to special Boy Scout assemblies, such as Courts of Honor, more for sentimentality than awesome cutting performance. My dad's friend, who has been like a second father to me, gave it to me after my trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch. It was his favorite knife, an old-stock unit with brass fittings that he always carried on his belt or in his car door, and I take great pride in having it now. It does perform very well and is a nice-looking knife. The tanto point does not greatly interfere with any utility cutting in my experience.

KATN,

Wade
