I've been thinking about getting back into archery after a LONG absence [i.e. I stopped when I was 17 and I'm now 32]. granted I was a child then, but I was pretty darn good at intuitive aiming and won a bunch of competitions in Boy Scouts. I found out that the local county park has an archery range (whodathunkit on Long Island). Anyone have any recommendations on decent bows to get back into the sport with?

I just picked up a gently used "Bob Lee" recurve bow this last fall during archery season and I love it!! Very smooth and comfortable. I was also interested in a new "Cascade" Night Hawk, Cascade is supposed to make very smooth/forgiving bows. Both worth a look IMHO ;)

Black widow, or Hoyt/Reflex have nice modern recurves. Gamemaster is very forgiving bow and you can add equipment to the bow.

Black Widows are also über expensive, not what I'd recommend for a newbie who isn't sure what he's looking for.

Talk to These guys. They can give you good advice on a good starter bow as well as techniques, equipment, etc.

Thanks for the big help everyone. I'll go ask the tradtalk guys.

On a separate note: Nice avatar superduty! That series of photos was taken two or three years ago during the annual Memorial Day weekend Jones Beach Airshow/Fleet Week festivities up here in the NYC area. That weekend is pretty much my Christmas.
