How would I sharpen a recurve blade like the Kershaw Scallion using normal hand sharpening IE an Arkansas stone. Can it even be done or should I finally invest in one of those sharpening systems?

The standard method for doing recurves is a rolled up sandpaper/mousepad. However, with some creativity, I'm sure you can use your Arkansas stone.

You can try using the edges of the stone to reach into the recurve part of the blade or you can purchase a rod or triangle shaped sharpener.

The basic technique is the same, but you just have to have a stone/surface that is narrow enough to allow you to follow the curve with your motion being perpendicular to the edge.
