lathed an end plug today for an old 2C cell maglite body i had laying around (so many bodies under the shed  :D ). The aluminum end cap is press fit and expoxied into the cut down maglite body. This will be a fire kit, complete with tinder, firesteel, fatwood and PJCB. But for now it holds matches and cotton balls.
A waterproof, nukeproof, crushproof firekit (or survival kit or whatever)

shown beside a spyderco Delica combo edge:

approx specs: 5" long x 1" wide. Usable space inside is about 4.25" long x just under 1" wide. With Redbird matches in there, there is 1.5" of space left over for cotton balls, jute etc

the lanyard attachment point is also recycled. Its a brake pad holder bolt from a bicycle brake.

approx specs of FAT BOYS MOMMA: 8.5" long x 1.5" wide. Usable inside space is approx 7.25" x just under 1.30". You can fit a folder knife inside this! heck FAT BOY can fit inside his MOMMA with room to spare.

Great stuff Bushy, not so sure on the big momma but great work none the less !!!!

have you considered producing these to sell? I'd totally buy one for a 3D mag..

at this time, no. It costs me $25 in gas to drive out to dads shop to use his lathe. 2 - 5 hours of time playing on the lathe, cost of materials, shipping etc etc.

HOWEVER.......;) once i'm employed again and have disposable income, i WILL be buying a metal lathe. I plan to make similar sized canisters from scratch. I have a very unique design that will appeal to the WS&S crowd. But it will take me 6 months or so before this happens.

Bush,
I really that smaller one.
Of course, havin the bigger one would be cool too.
That's big enough to wack someone over the head with....although, I can't
think of anyone that I'd want to do that to...:o

If you are going to do up the smaller ones, put me on your list and let me
know how much when the time comes.

Cheers
Dave

Pretty sweet. I kind of made one when I broke an old AA Mini Mag in a failed attempt at a fire piston. I want to clean it up and make it look a little better.

here it is set up as a fire kit:
