My neighbor,a pilot for a major airlines dropped this on me minutes ago. I do not wish to start a panic but this is a very sobering message !
He told me to gas up both vehicles quietly today because there will be a nationwide OTR truckers strike tomorrow in protest of gas prices. Figure the effects of this if for real----frightnening at the best.

I have grown quite fond of this motley bunch here from the microcephalics to the eggheads even if you beat up on me often.

Do you think CYA might be in order ?

Uncle Alan , hoping to be wrong once again .

uncle Alan,A friend of mine told me something similar yesterday but he didn't mention when. They have to put food on their tables too.Got me to thinking about the old saw,"If you got it,a truck brought it."

Sounds like another "race to the pumps" scare, like the crap after September 11. Someone made up some crap story, bunches of gullible people fell for it, and gas stations struck it rich.

Hear about people hoarding toilet paper and water for Y2K?

Seems like people love any excuse to hoard readily-available consumables.

If there really is a massive trucker strike tomorrow, I'm sure the news media will pick up on it today. Haven't heard anything yet...

Well,it's after midnight and I just saw an old Mack roll past on the highway out front so it looks like neither of our friends are Nostradamus's.

Hell, if it happened, I would get in good shape riding a bike 25-30 miles each way to work and back. Bring it on! ;)

Hell, if it happened, I would have a heart attack riding a bike 25-30 miles each way to work and back, especially since I carpool with the missus who works nearby. Maybe a tandem? Actually, I have been thinking about getting one of those high mileage scooters, but the image of a fat old bearded biker, wearing leather w/colors and a chop helmet, riding a scooter just seems so... :barf: Not that I wouldn't post a pic for you Rat F. :D

Some of the modern scooters are very "unscooterish". Small sportbikes and small cruisers get excellent mileage too. Heck, even a fat cruiser gets better mileage than a car or truck.

And it sure feels great to fill up on eight dollars. :)

My car (ok...temporarily my dad's :D ) got filled yesterday. 17.625 gallons for $2.63/gal. :barf: BUT our average MPG were 28.9 in our little Saab 900 and we got 506.5 miles out of the tank with a gallon left. On the way home from looking at a potential car for me I got some nice "fresh tank" MPG ratings: 33.8 at the highest, then it averaged at 33.5. The computer said if I continued such a driving trend I could get 640 miles out of the tank...yeah...right. :D

Northwest Airlines mechanics are threatening a strike today. Maybe your friend was confused.

He usually is on the mark. Flew for Swedish air force, came to America ,married a Cubal exile, instant citizenship , has the most analytical mind I've ever encountered .In a few short years he has become a senior pilot. Very helpful with his older neighbors too.
NW is striking as I write.

Speaking of Swedes.it would be nice to a bright one or two on the forum.wouldn't it ?

Sorry, until then, you're stuck with me :p

Figured I'd pull your chain. What do you know about J.A. Lafquist from Eskilstuna? I have an extremely interesting knife he made in the mid-1800's . Beautiful carved hardwood handle.Learned one is displayed at the museum there. ;) Could send you photo & data sheet if you're interested. Guess BRL got po'ed at my clumsy efforts to submit it. Someone finally sent it for me but he totally ignored it then.

So it's bad in the US too? what's your gas price now?
Here in Sweden it's around 12 SKR = 1.53 USD per litre.

Id love to see some brotherhood between the truckers!

if it is country wide- the effects will be seen almost instantly.

kudos to the truckers, they move America!
