My dad has his grandfathers shrade/waldon. It has a red and white striped handle. The sheath is brown leather with red and green plastic chord. Can anybody tell me more about this knife.

Is it similar to this one? However, I'm not sure if the sheath is original.

The tang stamp will date it somewhere from 1948-1973. Perhaps someone can narrow that down a little more.

Larry has an excellent site with tons of info...

Hope that helps.

Glen, I believe that your sheath is likely original on this "peppermint", an SFO for Sears Roebuck & Co during the late 50's-early 60's. It was a Sears #9508.

From A. B. Hourin's notebook:

#147A -SR9508

Tang Stamped: S-W (Do Not Number Tangs)
Etched: CRAFTSMAN 9508 CUSTOM MADE

Note that I may have this number wrong. I've lost a lot of my research notes from that period.

....as Glenn suggests Larry Vickery's site Schrades R Us.... you will see the 9508 Candy Stripe up close and personal with all the other color variations in this series... good enough to eat!...Collectors Corner..Larry H Downunder....page 13 of photos....Hoo Roo

Many photos of USA Schrade knives that have been removed by BF here, can still be seen on Larry Vickery's Schrades R Us...mine are displayed on Collectors Corner/ Larry H Downunder/...many pages of USA Schrade photos and info...
