Have any of you owned or been close up and personnel with the "PIG" by Red Blade knives?Watched a short video by one of the owners and checked them out at several online retailers...
So whats the skinny with thes folders?

I held one at Blade Show. Nice guys. It felt very good in hand and the liner lock was the smoothest I'd ever operated. Really thick blade stock and beefy knife but fit my medium large hands nicely.

I actually held the original prototype too. Almost identical to the first run but a little more rough around the edges and didn't have the jimping on the liner lock.

Yep, thats the video I watched, thanks for posting the link. Looks like a beefy beast! And kind of ugly just like me!! Was curious about the quality and performance. Looks like sales are lagging.. they have discounted the original retail by 35%.

Yeah, they were selling them for around $400 at Blade. When I got home I looked them up and it looked like they were around $500. I don't know about longevity since I just handled one for a minute or two. Looked to be good materials and solid lockup. The lanyard pin could also be used as the stop pin if for some reason that ever broke. Not pretty but tank like. Don't know how it cuts or slices with that huge slab of s30v but your not going to snap it.

Looks like some quality materials went into that knife - though personally, Ive never seen the point of a super heavy duty hopelessly overengineered folder.

Thats just me of course. I know, that many like 'em.

So, I couldn't help myself.. I had to see if this thing was as Big and Tough as it is described. Read all the reviews, watched the one YouTube video that I could find, checked out the Company's Web site. And decided what the hell. I have to admit it is everything it claims to be!! It is a HEAVY DUTY, WELL BUILT KNIFE!! I have to admit I was leery at first but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrive a few days ago. It is definitely not a knife for the faint of heart, it is heavy and it's thick, it is built like a Tank!! It came with generic black nylon sheath (USA MARKED) and it is smooth as butter!! I'm a lefty, so most knives unless they are designed specific for left handers are a little hard to open one handed (for me anyway) not this baby it opens very smoothly with either hand. Anyway in case you are interested in a Heavy Duty well built knife made in the good old USA. I would highly recommend this knife. Here is a link to the Company web site and some pictures of MY Pig...

Yea Victor, it is a pretty sweet knife, workmanship and materials are second to none for a production knife. Thanks for looking.

I handled several of these at this year's USN Gathering in Vegas. I also got to discuss the merits of this folder with one of the designers, Sean (Griz) Coulter.
I can testify that this is one extremely well designed and precision made folder and should be absolutely bulletproof. In fact, it will be my next folder purchase.

I'm trying to wrap my head around why this knife cost so much
When Grayman offers the Dua and the Satu at a lower price.

Hey Charles, I have owned the Grayman Dua but not the Satu the Dua was a nice heavy little knife... but to small for my taste, great knife but not IMHO as well made as the Pig. The pig is a beast of a knife that gives you the feeling that it is just a tough, ugly tool!! I actually sold my first one a few months ago and to be honest it was one of the few knives I have owned including an SMF, SNG, XM-18.. that I really regretted getting rid of!! They are relatively expensive but if you compare them to the Striders not tht much more.. and the quality control, fit and finish and ease of operation are far better!! Are they worth the five hundred dollar retail price? All things considered I would have to say probably so. I have noticed that you dont see them on the secondary market much.. so those who have them tend to keep them. I actually found one for sale here on BF about a week ago BNIB (they actually dont come in a box but a black nylon belt sheath) and jumped on it!! My new Pig arrived yesterday and I wont make the mistake of selling this one!!
All the best, Dave

Thank you for the honest feedback. I've watched vids on YouTube. I just wished that blade was 3 3/4 and it would be a no brainer
But this knife as it is reminds me of my Ontario xm-1. If I may ask what made you sell the first one you had originally?

Sure, I was really getting into CRK at the time and I pretty much sold all of the other knives that I had purchased up to that point.. SMF, SNG, PT, ZT, XM-18, XM-24 and a couple of Sypdercos.. and the RBN "Pig" was the only one that I missed. So, I got another..
All the best, Dave
