My wife left this little guy at my breakfast table this morning before I woke up (she left verrry early on a business trip). It's always great to get a new Peanut. Here it is with my old chestnut bone and my favorite rye.

Not sure about the bright red bone scales, but it sure is a sharp little thing. I wish case made a darker red bone. Like the old ones I've seen.

Nice shot! Well, the older ones were a little bit darker, but I like that also.

But... Rye on the breakfast table, that´s really a breakfast for a man, when the wife is not at home! Cheers! ;)

Kind regards
Andi

Thats a beauty and a heck of a going away present, even if you are just staying at home. :D
Congrats on a new beauty.

Considering that's a relatively recent knife, that red bone looks quite good.

Too many of the current-generation 'red bone' knives from Case have looked much more 'pink' than red. Yours looks decidedly better than that.

It's always nice to wake up to a new 'nut.:thumb up:

You have a wife that is a keeper. She knows the way to a man's heart is through his 'nuts!:D

Carl.

I prefer something a little sweeter for breakfast.....bourbon. :p

I love those red bone peanuts. I have a few of them and the color between ranges from bright red to deep and dark. It sounds like you married a great woman.

Thanks, guys. Both my wife and the peanut are keepers. I'm 38 next month and we've been together for 18 years. If the peanut is with me half as long I'll be happy.

And the rye was still on the table from last night. It wasn't for breakfast.

Honest :D

A welcome addition!

I have a RussLock in that color, and I think they should either be a bit more generous with the dye or rename the color "pink bone."

Are you going to use either of them? 'cuz I don't see any staining on the blade of the "old" one. ;) The old one is just like the one I've been carrying every day since I got it a few weeks ago.

Also, I just picked up one of the "pink bone" Peanuts at Ace Hardware yesterday for $20 + tax. They have a whole stack of them, 50% off. (originally $40) The Case case is now filled with Frost Cutlery junk knives. Only these pink bone Peanuts are left. :(

Hey, wait a minute! Aren't you the guy who just got the Buck 309 yesterday? :D What a great way to start the week - two knives in two days!

Great wife, great knife, great life!

Yep. I got the little 309 yesterday. Bought that one for myself. I think I'm pretty much set with knives right now. At least that's my story at present--
The chestnut peanut in my photo has been in my pocket pretty much everyday since Christmas of 2010. It doesn't really have a patina, but if you were to look closely at it there are these fine, little black spots on the blade. I do nothing but wipe it down each day. It's shiny appearance is the result of me not using it at all on food (I've never needed to use my pocket knife on food).

I tried forcing a patina once. I didn't like how it turned out, so I'm letting this one age all on its own, at its own pace.

Congratulations on getting the new peanut. And to quote Corb Lund, one of my favorite songwriters, "Rye whiskey: There's a fight in every bottle."

Ozark--

The 309 and the Peanut are both comparable in functionality. I'd go out on a limb and say the 309 is a little bit "tougher" than the Peanut due to the stainless, but I prefer the full flat grind of the Peanut. Also, the pen blade on the 309 is kind of an oddity. It's a little thicker than one would expect. It took a long time sharpening to get it to cut like I want my pen blades to cut.

The 309 gives a "little" more handle, if that matters to you.

Both are excellent knives in my opinion.

Peanuts are awesome I think you'll really enjoy that one. Case's red bone will wear nicely and the CV blade should take an excellent natural or forced patina. Call me sentimental but I've always thought more highly of knives that were gifted to me.
