I am hoping one of the members here can help me. A close friend of mine called asking for help finding a hunting knife with a red Demascus blade. I personally have never seen one. So if anyone knows where I could purchase one or who may be able to make one I would apreciate any help I can get.
Thank you Bobby

I could only find a Katana and a Chinese Tai Chi sword with red damascus. There really isn't a way to get red damascus without fudging the red color and pattern as a coating, since you can't acid etch a red color to the best of my knowledge. The swords I found were electroplated, which means the red color is just a super thin layer that would come off quickly with any use.

Edit: The colors you can naturally get out of nearly any metal alloy are bronze, blue, green, and purple. There may be some metal that can somehow be oxidized to red, but I'm not aware of any offhand.

Thanks for the information I had never heard of it and only found a couple pics when I looked it up. I'll do some more reading before I get back to my friend.

Red damascus? Piece of CAKE!!!

1: Buy any bar of decent carbon steel damascus.
2: Make a blade out of it.
3: Stick the blade, point down, in the dirt outside your house. Leave it for a couple of days.
4: Remove the blade from the dirt. Remove the dirt from the blade. See that nice red oxide coating? VERY lightly brush the powdery residue off with some FINE steel wool. When you have the most of it off, clear Cerakote the blade.

See? Easy peasy!!!;)
