Currently there is a Randall knife being sold on eBay being called a "Red Dog" Randall. The "Red Dog" Randalls are legitimate. Gary Randall was experimenting with dyes attempting to make red stag. Some of them came out this pink color. Some of this stag was used on Randall knives. The guys in the shop started calling them Red Dog knives, in fun. The name stuck. Of such things is history made. /// Rhett Stidham

An interesting bit of trivia. Thanks Rhett, this kind of information can be very important in identifying Randalls in the future.

If I'm not mistaken there were even a very few of the mini 25s that were done in the Red Dog Stag. Those should be worth as much as the much sought after Ivory ones. Greg

My understanding is that only 19 were made and those were mostly for the Randall employees. That makes them extremely rare in my book. Does anyone know if Randall will look up in their records the original owners name on a knife??? "I have a couple with names I would like them to look up if they can. One dates back to the 40s and the other is a Vietnam. Thanks, Rich

Hi Rich
I went through this before on a 1942 -43 Fighting knife. No records that far back.
regards dd2 :(

Too bad they can't do that look up. It would add immensely historically and to value. They could charge a fee to cover the expenses like Colt does for a letter of authenticity, but I guess that's just my wishful thinking. thanks for your usual helpful input fellas.
