Red dot input wanted

Ok guys,
I'm going red dot shopping tomorrow. I've been looking online at the eotech xps2-0 and the aimpoint comp m3. Just reading and I've watched a couple YouTube vids. Either one will compliment my new bk10 ...... (sorry moose).

Both are in my price range and written off as a work expense next year.

I've played around with an eotech on my buddy's AR, but haven't shot with one. I like it.

I currently have a CLONE comp m4 and its ok. But I don't feel like its reliable for taking on patrol. I've never held or used a real aimpoint so I'm not even sure if my clone is close or exact size, dot, etc.

Acog is not in the cards.

Anyone running any of these red dots? Used in combat? On patrol? Plinking? Anyone have both or had both?

What makes you prefer one over the other?

I should note; I'm 42, I have astigmatism and wear "no line" bifocals everyday all day. I can shoot open sights without my glasses its just slightly blurred. Wouldn't be able to read the directions on a tylenol bottle though.

Id like to have all the input I could before I drop my money on one of them.

Appreciate any input,
Steve

I just picked up 2 Bushnell TRS-25 red dot scopes, to complement my Becker Knife collection. Put one on my Mossberg 930 SPX #85370 & my 590 pump. I was also looking at the EoTecs but too pricey for me at this time---I am trying to save for tweeners you know ! Check them out. Waterproof to 10ft & 2 yr warr. I like em a lot. If they don't work out for some reason, EoTec will be my next red dot.

BONUS: the color matches my Beckers !!!

I love the fact that i can use the iron sites right through the red dot, if it ever fails, without removing it or doing anything.

wel. i'm your guy for red dots. well, one of them :)

the XPS 2-0 is a fine sight. i almost bought one, but figured, i wanted the lowest profile red dot i could find with BEST battery life, so i got an aimpoint, it's nice.

i'm running a bushnell holographic on a .22, and it's fun. i'd consider an XPS 2-0 though as a next sight. i like the whole circle - dot thing. a lot. definitely, next time.

there's a number of GOOD reddots now, but holographic? that's special. eotech got that right. anything inside that circle? bang. easy.

both companies off night vision if you want it.

as well, i'd seriously consider primary arms for a red dot, or these other guys: "lucid red dot"

i also have opinions on scopes :) :D

here's my aimpoint, and i approve:

ignore the flashlight, it's there as a joke :)

the Bushnell is cool. not enough click stops for 25 yds, but it's set for 50 yds. good for me :)

the nice thing about the holo, less parallax effect for me, and others. i've had totally new 9-12 yo kids use this setup and get precision. that's ... scary :) go video games :D

I've used both and prefer Aimpoints. Been using one at work for over 10 years. You'll want to upgrade the mounts on both if your running it at work. Don't run a clone at work! They will fail you. If possible, shoot your friends rifle and see if you like the reticle in various lighting conditions. Also do some stoppage drills. The Eotechs are a bit wider and hang up on stuff (they will also eat your hands up if your not careful). Both are quality optics and come down to user preference. Happy shopping.

We country police need something to aim at rabbits with anyways.... (we caught this one tonight) .

I have a primary arms (m3 version i think) already. It's very nice for the price for sure. Sight acquisition takes a bit with my glasses but I do like it.

I'm leaning towards the xps2 though. I think I'm going to actually drive to primary arms and look and hold the eotech and aimpoint.

Seems like the eotech would work better with my glasses though.

Wonder which one my bk10 prefers?

that little bunny isn't even worth eating :)

I also have astigmatism and wear progressives (I'm 57). I don't like any of the red dots I've tried - either the dot is too hard to find or it hides too much of the target (for me). I absolutely love my EOTech. I've only used it for plinking (really fun) and target shooting, but if I was going into any kind of action (I was Infantry) it is what I would want.

It really is the best of both worlds - big circle = really fast acquisition + small dot = precision.

My $.02

I too, have used both EOTech (516) and Aimpoint M3 (2 moa). I preferred the Aimpoint, but gave 'em both up on account of my eyes are no longer young, and to make the 'dot' clear, I needed my specs. I kept a Vortex Strikefire, a very good value in red dots. My $2.15 ($.02 adjusted for inflation)

I run an Aimpoint Comp M4 with an ARMS quick release mount. In Iraq I used an M68 I think that is the M3 version. Very happy with the performance on mine and the issued one. Batteries last forever and the scopes are very rugged. I think bench accuracy suffers a bit with a red dot, but for practical hunting or social work they are great.

Funny that this thread keeps popping up.

I got this today. Belated Bday gift. Never used one before, but I'm gonna use it now. May get a 3x Mag for it. Who knows.

Ultradot has some good ones also.

Ultradot came out with a new one recently called the Ultradot 6, good stuff...

I run a Ultradot Matchdot on my Ruger 10/22 it has 2-4-6-8 MOA

well, that's a nice gift indeed :) very nice. good optic :}

when you tired of it, send it to me :>

Bladite how do you like your sig22

IMG88481-XL.jpg

i like it, i like it a LOT :) actually, used it a couple hours ago, 150 rounds at 25 yds for practice with my new sling. mucho fun :)

though this is the precision combo:

IMG88441-XL.jpg

with auto-match ammo, it's basically 1MOA at 100M. like it a lot.

the pistol will do pretty darn good with iron sights at 25 Y, i can get about 50% 10 ring or better, and some strays. working on it. i want that at 80-90% soon.

i like that the EOTech co-witness with my Magpul BUIS without needing a riser or anything...

on the other hand, the Aimpoint H1/T1 needs that riser (mind, it's only $25ish), but it then pushes the thing taller than one might like. trade offs :) i may still do it.

the Lucid red dot is a contender for sure next time i buy some optic, though a friend says he can get this other brand "fairly cheap", so maybe...

I just picked up a Trijicon RMR. They have exceptional battery life (or no batteries at all if you prefer) and are the lightest, most rugged sight on the market right now. It'll be going on my Glock 19 as soon as I decide which method to use.
