Has anyone put a red dot on a 30-30, if so how did it work out?

I need something more that the iron sights due to poor vision but I hate the added weight of a scope on a lever-action (the area I hunt is heavily wooded so I would not get a shot greater than 100 yards).

Thanks,

Scott

The weight of a good quality dot is not much different than a small 2.5X6 scope. Having said that, Marlins are easier to scope than a Winchester because of the ejection system. On a Winchester you may have to tweak the ejector to keep spent rounds for bouncing off the dot and back into the action. Now on the Winchester XS you can mount a scope or dot forward of the action ala a scout mount. I have used a dot on a Marlin 22 lever, worked fine.

I've got a dot sight on my Winchester 94 Trapper in .44 Mag. It looks odd but is by far the best sighting system for this type of rifle, IMO.

i'm sure it would work fine but i would rather have something with some magnification for hunting, even if its only 2.5X or 3X.

but again i'm sure it would work fine.

I put a red dot/LER on my savage scout. Works great.
